Looks like Turley has met the College off-speed pitch. Struggling with 29 K's and a couple of times on the pine at the Farm. 29, wow! didn't realize that many, that's a whole seasons worth!! Sometimes it best to let hitters br hitters, and not try to remake them. The hall of fame is riddiled with guys that had bad swings, "they'll never hit" and yet, there they are!!

Bazzana struck out 62 times last year, Boyd 58, Melton 51. Nobody not named Madrigal goes through a 56-game season with only 29 Ks. Some HOFers were bad-ball hitters (Vlad, Yogi). None had bad swings. Big difference.

Lots of grinders on that 2018 team.

Turley is being fed a steady diet of breaking balls and off speed stuff. On 0-2 and 1-2 counts, he is essentially being pitched out of the zone. He's a freshman and he gets fooled at times. 29 K's is almost double what you would hope for in 64 official AB's. To his credit, he's put up a good OBP number and SLG %. Need improved contact and strict plate discipline to raise the BA and cut down the whiffs.
Here is an interesting comparison. Gavin has been better on the year but Ruben has been better of late. Gavin's K:AB ratio is 1:2.2, Ruben's is 1:3.2
Turley .266/.407/.531 Cedillo .204/.302/.352

Unfortunately there is more than Turley at issue or #s that include what is going to be a fairly weak pre-Pac12 schedule. Pac12 play is where this team needs to compete. Pac12 #s can only improve: Kasper .364/.455/.417 Garrett .300/.500/.462 Kane .261/.348/.292 Micah .227/.318/.370 Travis .190/.286/.280 Mason .158/.368/.238 Ruben .136/.455/.240 Kyle .125/.188/.222 Smith .105/.105/.105 Turley .000/.000/.176 Talt .000/.000/.333 Macias .000/.000/1.000
Team .185/.307/.289
Can't see how they could get worse?!

But what I don’t understand is why Turley and other don’t See these pitches during fall. Are our pitchers just throwing fast balls? Why aren’t they getting used to the filthy pitches with our pitchers?

Originally I went over on HR's with lots of K's......now I think he'd challenge Larnach for the K record if he gets the AB's, and I don't think he sniffs the over on HR's. I hope he figures it out against this level of pitching. Some guys never do.

I think McDowell had some off season hitting instruction that has helped him. That might be something for Turley to consider - a fresh approach.

I think it was during Saturday's game, the announcers said that McDowell is finally healthy for the first time in his OSU career. Not sure how true this is, but I am happy that he is doing well.
