We are seeing that more seventh and eighth graders are committing. They are 5 years away from being college athletes and that is a wee bit risky for college coaches. On the other hand, if you wait until he's in high school, a dozen other schools have been recruiting him for 2 years and you are playing catch-up. I'll leave the full discussion on this subject for another day.
The Beavers have two outstanding recruits committed in the 2026 class, but none in 2027. Here is a player to watch, he could be the first in our '27 class. His name is Manny Ehinger and he lives in the Lakeridge district of Lake Oswego.
Manny is 6-2 and 165 pounds and very athletic. He is a RHP and a standout third baseman. An exceptional glove and strong and accurate arm for his age, his defensive play has been turning heads on the tournament circuit since he was 11 years old. Playing summer team travel ball with NW Diamond Sports and Canes-West out of Irvine, CA, Manny has been turning heads with his bat. He has real pull power (he can turn on anything) and peppers the gaps with loud line drives. He has a quick bat, controlling the barrel through the hitting zone. Against the very best age group competition he has been a tough out.
At 13, his metrics from last summer include a 7.4 sixty, 92.4 exit velo, Inf Velo of 80 mph.
Pitching data is 84-85 mph Fastball, 72 mph Change. Good control.
Those numbers are impressive for 7th grade graduate.
Good student and just seems to sound like a natural for Beaver baseball. He will have a good selection of schools to choose from, let's hope it is the mighty Beavs.
