I am confused as to what you are asking? Forgive the lack of clarity. Having been watching the progress of construction of the ship, I noticed the other side of the ship is completely painted, while the side facing the web cam at present is unfinished, and I was wondering the rationale..... Thanks. It looks to me that the starboard side is painted. It looked like there was extra protection or reinforcement placed on the starboard side (for an unknown reason), which has since been removed based upon the video in the link. It might be because of the ropes to tie the boat to the dock, but that is a guess.

It looks as if they have some striping down on Washington Way between the entrance to the Goss parking lot and 26th Street. Maybe the end of the world's longest construction project for a four-block area is finally approaching. Unbelievable how long and dragged-out this project has been.
WW between 26th and 30th has been closed for more than a year. Other than removing some trees and closing some pretty handy parking lots, hard to see where they have done much of anything there.
The whole project seems like a massive waste of money and time. And the part of WW that really needs widening and upgrading - between 30th and 35th - remains untouched.

Skrimshander to make project move faster how would you do it?
30th to 35th is to be completed after the section to 30th is done. It’s my understanding that all utilities were moved and upgraded during construction. All this money is spent so there is nothing in the railroad ROW but railroad is dragging their feet to upgrade any other crossings. Like Jefferson or Walnut and even Circle at 99.

IDK, maybe have workers on site? Many, many days I saw no work being done at all. Not seeing that the street was moved appreciably to make any difference with the railroad ROW. For the two or three trains that now come through there daily. Just seemed to take a long time. Like replacing the sidewalks on the west side of 15th by the AD building. Another year-long project.

Like replacing the sidewalks on the west side of 15th by the AD building. Another year-long project. I was told a few years back when they started this plan that the street was too close to the RR ROW for modern safety corridors and such, and that nothing could be done with any of the other parts adjacent to WW unless and until that part was corrected. That and they needed better paths for bikes and pedestrians to promote fewer cars, which has been the driving force behind most transportation projects on campus. (Which is why they don't blink every time a parking lot disappears for a building - it will just help promote non-car commuting. Right...)I have also heard - years ago when I first came to town - that the edge of the roadway when it was originally laid out actually encroached on the RR ROW by a foot. The person I heard that from was an old RR hand. Can't verify it. But the proximity will be improved by 10 feet when all is said and done and we'll be in compliance with modern specs and with those wide paths for non-cars you won't need a car to get there from here. I agree on the time - it does seem to take long time to do things these days.

Was down there this morning and it looks ready to go, except for the barriers still blocking WW at 26th Street. You still won't want to meet a bus or a big truck on that stretch of the road, it seems narrow.
The eastern sand volleyball court was removed, not sure if that's going back in. Still some landscaping, etc., to be completed but at least the road and bikepaths will be open.
When WW and the PRAX is done, the south edge of campus will be much-improved.
Someday the Withycombe Hall project will be done too. That has been a massive undertaking.

Drove on the new bike track today. While it's not terribly impressive in that we only have the stretch between 17th and 26th, as a demonstration of how things "could be" if we attack transportation infrastructure strategically, it was dam nice to have a lane for my acoustic motorbike, knowing there was a space for peds and a space for cars, and none us get in each other's way.
Now, I'm not saying rip up every street everywhere and rebuild them like this, but for strategic corridors it makes sense, especially since "share the road" only goes so far hereabouts before you worry about getting someone's tread on your reflective jacket... When all is said and done, it will be a nice way to go from 15th to 35th, and hopefully give transportation folks some ideas.

That is going to be a massive project. I hope they implode Weniger. Maybe they could accidently implode/explode Snell while they're at it.

If they wait too long it’ll be designated as a historical structure and be untouchable. It’s probably close to 70 years old right now. As the old saying goes, “nobody loves 50 year old buildings but everyone loves 100 year old buildings”.
