Four years ago when Oregon State was recruiting Garrett Forrester out of Fair Oaks-Bella Vista HS in the Sacramento Metro, I ran across a tweet from a teammate wishing him well following his verbal commitment to coach Bailey. The teammate played on a youth league team with Garrett and referred to him by his childhood nickname, "Donkey". That moniker was given him at about age 9 according to the tweet. I posted it in a recruiting note here and people took note.
The other day I ran across another one in the Lewiston, Idaho Tribune. Trent Sellers is/was affectionately known to his Lewis and Clark teammates as "Sugar". The origin of that is his fondness of candy, apparently anytime and anywhere . . . . including on the mound. No mention of where that originated - Lewiston or back home in Kennewick.
Sugar Sellers . . . . sweet!

I was thinking Garrett looks faster this year, and was commenting to some friends that the “Donkey” tag just doesn’t seem right.
I’m gonna run with “G4.”

I like cowboy for Garrett, fits his walk up music and the mullet I mean he's got Donkey and Big Country. I feel like I may have come up with Big Country....I mean maybe not.....I literally have a nickname for everyone.....my kids, my wife, my buddies, my pets, etc.....that one just seems natural to me. I like "Sugar" Sellers.....nicknames should obviously fit the person. If hes a sweet tooth it's a no brainier. This could be a fun thread.....do we have a name for Turley yet? According to that Eggers article he's kinda "goofy".....which is kinda like "cheesy".....Big Cheese? He also likes to send balls into orbit.....Major Tom? Haha

Turley could transfer to a Junior College, play one year, then be draft eligible in 2024. If he stays at OSU, he won't be eligible until the 2025 draft.
Gavin had a clear vision regarding the MLB draft. "I will know by Sunday night if I'm going to be a professional player, otherwise I'm on my way to play college ball at Oregon State".
Sunday night concluded the first round of the MLB draft. That established a $2 million price tag It was all transparent and simple - he had a plan. His long term goal is to be a rancher - OSU can really help him with that.
The concern for pro scouts? Too many moving parts in his swing and that was enough to move him out of the first round.
He has the full tool kit but the hit tool needs refinement. Hello Beaver coaching staff!

That would be a pretty crazy move. He can leave school with an associates degree, possibly championships, a crap load of exposure and a high draft slot. I don't think the scouts are impressed watching him bat .500 against JC arms vs batting .300 against P12 Aces.
He has all the pieces in place for a pretty great story and being set up for life if he works on the craft and avoids injury.
