Softball shut out twice today and now stand at 6-8. Was very hopefull the team would be flexing their muscle early coming off a WCWS appearence. I realize we lost Mariah Mazon but still, thought we'd still be good. Three starters were not in today's line up and that doesn't help either. Beaver sports can be fools gold at times 😞

Well with only 29 games to go until the Pac 12 tourney, I guess we can call it a season.

The Beavers are now 8-8 and just defeated BYU. One thing that Laura Berg has had trouble in developing (or at least it's been a long, drawn-out process) are strong hitting teams. They lost Mazon, who hit .360 last year with 12 home runs and nine doubles, in addition to being the top OSU pitcher in some time. They lost Kiki Escobar to LSU. She hit .330 as a freshman for OSU. And although Frankie Hammoude is back, she is only hitting .194 (stats probably not updated from today) so far this season. Last year she led the Beavers with a .384 average and had 15 home runs and eight doubles. They also lost two starters for the season to injuries. So it might take some time.

It's weird that a highly ranked kiki escobar would jump ship after freshman year especially considering the team reached the WCWS. NIL? Berg has lost some good players over the years. I've always wondered if she is overbearing. Also, I always check the roster at the beginning of the season, and a few more times during the season; if a player disappears from the roster, and Escobar is still on it last time I checked (about 10 days ago).

Oh no! You're right...man, I totally went off the rails. I see what happened here. She does not show up on the 2023 stats page because she has been out. But then I searched for Escobar and her name and her 2022 hitting stats came up in an LSU story but I just saw it in the little preview thing and didn't bother to open the story as I should have. Because when you open it, you see that it's referring to her as an Oregon State player. I just assumed that she had gone to LSU. Just a domino effect of dumb, ha ha. As for Berg, she definitely has an all business all the time way about her but not to the point where she's overbearing (I've spoken to her a few times). But I don't know how she is with players all the time.

You're probably right about NIL. Hard to compete with money. The team seemed to have so much fun together last season. Edit: That took only a few seconds to not age well I guess Escobar didn't leave...

Good news she didn't leave!
Simon, Escobar and Seevaetasi are all out right now. That hurts for sure. Frankie is a covid Sr so she may be checking out or just poor hitters around her so never sees a decent pitch.
Edit: Abby Doer is after Franke so not a poor hitter there.

Speaking of struggling at the plate, just were shutout 1-0 by Utah Tech. Ouch.

Not just shut out by Utah Tech, but by their Freshman pitcher from Pendleton. Ouch. Let's hope this isn't a repeat of great success followed by abject failure like the men's b-ball team after the Elite 8 run. Losses already to Weber St, Portland St, and Utah Tech is not a good sign.

Disrespect is quite the motivator.
