Saw this on Twitter earlier today. This guy has Tres as the program's best player since 2000, what say everyone else? I think he's top 5 and in the conversation myself, but I also think there are a few others who may belong in that conversation as well such as GP2 and E for carrying a team to the NCAAs as well as some other guys who have had NBA/collegiate success.

For me, a tough choice between GP II and Ethan Thompson. I went with Thompson because of the results. Fair? I don't know.

I voted for Ethan because of the results the Elite 8 team he was on delivered. Gary for most exciting player, best post-graduate career, etc. Drew for most improvement after his career here. David Lucas for most improvement while here. Lamar for most distinguished non-playing post graduation career, and how articulate he is. Tres for most statistically productive - which is what I suspect Big Game Boomer referenced in their selection - but stats don't tell the whole story.
Go Beavers!

Tres gets the nod for me for being consistently productive over his entire tenure at OSU, which was significantly longer than GPII. Ethan had a great final year, but Tres was 1st team all-conference three consecutive years.

Ethan had a great final year, but Tres was 1st team all-conference three consecutive years. This is where I’m at too. Tres gets maligned on here cuz team didn’t perform all that well while he wore the uniform, but I’d give him the nod for best. Now if you told me you could have one of those players for one game this year, I’d choose GPII.

Tres gets pretty much zero credit for the first NCAA tournament run by a lot of fans. He was second on the team in scoring, rebounds and steals, not sure about assists at the time he went out. Also, at that point of the season he was pushing Gary statistically over the recent games. The Beavers were also 17 and 10 with him, 2 and 3 without him, that season. The team absolutely tanked without him in year number two, not that it would have been a good year with him. His last two years the Beavers got screwed as far as post season play goes, they had better records and RPI than several teams that had post-seasons.
Gary was the the most exciting player. Ethan was a great all-around player. Depending on injuries, Gary and Drew are likely to have the most successful long term NBA careers out of all the players this century so far unless there are some surprises. That said, we've got a bunch of kids who have had or will have pretty decent foreign careers who's contributions to OSU basketball should in no way be dismissed.

Gary Payton II was the best player at Oregon State in the last 25 years. However, he only played two seasons. Tres Tinkle was the best player at Oregon State over the last 25 years, who played more than two seasons. Also, the best offensive player of the past 25 years is Tres Tinkle, and the best defensive player is Gary Payton II.
Since 2000:
Most field goals made: 1. Tres Tinkle 739 2. Stevie Thompson, Jr. 636
Best field goal percentage: 1. Drew Eubanks .598 2. Devon Collier .576
Three-Point Field Goals Made: 1. Stevie Thompson, Jr. 230 2. Ahmad Starks 185 2. Tres Tinkle 185
Free Throws Made: 1. Tres Tinkle 570 2. Roberto Nelson 486
Free Throw Percentage: 1. Robert Nelson .792 2. Tres Tinkle .788
Rebounds: 1. Tres Tinkle 882 2. Eric Moreland 762
Assists: 1. Ethan Thompson 499 2. Lamar Hurd 374 2. Tres Tinkle 374
Steals: 1. Jared Cunningham 219 2. Tres Tinkle 196
Blocks: 1. Kylor Kelley 211 2. Eric Moreland 184
Points: 1. Tres Tinkle 2,233 2. Stevie Thompson, Jr. 1,767
Points Per Game 1. Tres Tinkle 17.7 2. Philip Ricci 16.4

Tres gets way downgraded because his dad is the coach and people don't like the team's record. His stats compare favorably with AC Green's OSU career.

Tres gets way downgraded because his dad is the coach and people don't like the team's record. His stats compare favorably with AC Green's OSU career. Tres was a very skilled and good all-around college player. He reminds a little bit of Kyle Singler at Duke. Both had the skill to compete at the next level, but neither possessed the quickness. My one knock on Tres is that he often tried to do too much and force things instead of letting the offense come to him. That did not help the team.

Tres trying to dribble in traffic was comical….a total turnover machine….

Tres trying to dribble in traffic was comical….a total turnover machine…. Please define "turnover machine." Fun fact: Gary Payton I is the all-time leader in turnovers at Oregon State. In fact, he is tied for fourth place with himself in generating the most turnovers in a season. In order to create, you have to risk turning the ball over. Tres is not in the top 10 all-time in turnovers and is not in the top 10 all-time in turnover percentage at Oregon State. If Tres is a turnover machine, he is one of several.

Career Turnovers per game for the guys on the list: Tres - 2.5 Ethan - 2.4 GP2 - 2.1 Eubanks - 2.0 (felt like more to me. Loved to dribble to the corner and hold the ball with one hand while trying to pass over a double-team) Cunningham - 2.6 Roberto - 2.3 DLuke - 1.8 Lamar- 2.0
Basically everyone within a half a turnover a game of each other, and none of them egregious considering the volume of plays these guys handled the ball.

I think Tres had a great offensive mind. He could do a lot with the ball and find ways to score. But I think both ET and GPII had a better ability to command the floor, like a good quarterback, finding the open guys and supporting the entire team. Both had more career assists than Tres.
You could put GPII on any of the Tinkle-coached teams and see an immediate improvement. He had an ability to find the open guy and an ability to go to the basket. Even if its a team with strong offense, well, GPII brings his defensive skills. He was a strong rebounder and played hard defense. He was the full package and this is what keeps him in the NBA.
