Almost every school in the PAC-12 has had portal issues...elite programs as well as not elite programs. Arizona,uo,osu, etc. Only Stanford, who has an incredible degree was immune from it. Players going into the portal has nothing to do with the coaches not caring about them as people. Every player has their own reasons why they move on. Not every player is a good fit at every school. It's rediculous to blame the coaches at each school for the portal situation, unless you know specific instances of coaches actions drove off players. I've met all the coaches at osu,and they care about the players as people as well as players. Good people who are going to coach the players hard to get the best out of them. What more could you want? This is not true for every school. uo WBB players are leaving because of Kelly Graves. Yes, I have first hand knowledge. You never know on here who has a relative on another team. That’s all I will say. But the ones we wanted to leave were because of our fans if you ask Danica Brown

I made it down to 8 minute mingle - Like I said I would. Got to three of the five freshmen - Loud and clear they want to stay. Also met Donovan Hunter and her dad - they are excited about the momentum. GO BEAVS!! Excited about the momentum? I guess breaking a 9 game winning streak is momentum

Just my opinion. No way I'd given her minutes over Raegan and Timea.

Werebeaver - I'm sensing a little bit of grinning on your comment. At least I hope it's a smile. aicandme - Lily, Adlee and Martha. Rea and Timea were deep in an autograph lines with tons of kids. They deserve their attention more than me. These are the three I have concerns about. Reagan has made no bones about her plans and she and Timea seem very close so I'm hoping that is a good sign. To me that leaves AJ and Lex. I have no idea about either ones plans. Anyone have inside information? beav74?

No way I'd given her minutes over Raegan and Timea. Taylor is much more of a true post...way more like Beers and Mit in that regard. And she was all-Pac-12 as a sophomore. She probably would have kept Mit on the bench more and essentially split time with Beers, with Beers most likely getting more of the minutes as the season went on (or maybe Rueck would have gone to the twin towers with her and Beers). Also, if Mit is not returning, then it would have been great to have Taylor on the roster. Then again, the Beavers might not have landed Beers if Jones was still here...who knows?

Beers committed to OSU with the assumption that Jones and Brown would be here—she has mentioned a few times that their departures motivated her to recover from her injury.
It’s pretty remarkable that she and Gardner chose OSU given the talent on hand. Glad they did.

I know the portal has only been around a few years. Players have different reasons for leaving. If Scott or Graves tells a player that they are deficient in some area and need to work on it,how many top high school players have been told critical aspects of their game? How many don't want to hear that and bail?

Thank you for the post. An excellent point!
One would think that to become a top high school player good enough to be recruited by Major college teams, a person would have learned to accept and value constructive criticism.
However, parents, club team coaches, recruiters from other schools, all may have "poisoned the well" so to speak. That is, given the player a lot of B.S. about how great they are.
Go Beavs!

Thank you. The players I always loved at osu were the ones who were talented, and could be coached hard. Weise,Weisner,McWilliams,Guliich,Pivec, and many more. Scott and staff aren't just trying to be critical for no reason. They are trying to get the most out of each player, thus benefitting the team. You are right. People are afraid to tell players the truth. Player X,here is what you need to work on to be your best self,to compete in one of the best conferences in the country. Too...sometimes friends, parents, etc have a different view of their child than the coaches do who work with them daily. We have had dad's and moms who should just step back and let osu coaches do their jobs and not interfere.

As always, informative and reasoned!
I hope A.J. decides to stay. I am sure she is disappointed in her results (and perhaps amount of playing time?) this year.
Her athletic ability is "off the charts" and that is an area that the Beavs are not well equipped.
With her, a lot of effort and practice on 3 point shooting, could lead to her being extremely difficult for opponents. She would then have the mid range jump shot, the three point shot, and the quickness and strength to get to the rim and score.
Go Beavs!

Yes, I too like AJ. IMO she has an athleticism on the perimeter that no one else, other than Bendu, has on the current team. It would be amazing to see her realize that talent the same way Raegan has at the post. I'm looking forward to seeing that. I want to see AJ stay and grow her game.
