The Beaver scouting network continues to find explosive young arms along the I-5 corridor in southwestern Washington. In the 2018 class, it was Andrew Walling from R.A. Long HS in Longview, in the 2024 class it will be Zach Swanson from Toutle Lake HS and in 2025 it will be our newest recruit, Justin Fuller from small school La Center H.S. La Center HS has an enrollment of 509 students in grades 9-12 but they play big school baseball.
The La Center Wildcats play in the 1A Trico League. In 2022 Freshman phenom Fuller helped them to a 15-7 record and a District championship when he shut out Elma HS, 3-0. They defeated Eatonville HS 3-2, then lost to Royal City 7-6 in the state playoffs. They play an ambitious out of League schedule taking on Vancouver 3A schools Skyview, Hockinson, Union and others.
Fuller will play his sophomore season starting in March. He is a RHP that also excels in the OF. As a freshman he measured 5-10 and 166. He plays for a very good Baum NW team in summer travel ball. Offensively, Fuller put up some loud stats in for a freshman last spring. Based on 80 PA and 55 AB, his slash was, .364/.562/.386. He drew 14 BB, 6 HBP and K'd 8 times.
Important pitching stats: He had a 1.28 ERA, 1.0 WHIP, and a K:BB of 5.5:1, Opponents BA was .185.
Fuller is a top athlete. The baseball tools really stand out. a Series of laser timed 60's on differing surfaces range from 6.60 to 6.74. That will get the Beaver radar pinging in a hurry. His OF Velo ranges from 92-95 MPH, His exit velo is 90 mph. Pitching, he sits between 86-89 mph with a spin rate of 2,248 rpm. Throws a curve ball at 73 mph and 2,202 rpm, and a change at 76 mph and 2,128 rpm.
Mechanically, he has a very athletic motion with lots of arm speed and good extension, His release point is a high 3/4 (nearly over the top), which leads to vertical breaking pitches (IVB). Videos show a tight wrap on the CB and throwing it for strikes. The heater is key - and he can bring it.
Fuller is currently ranked #7 in Washington and the #2 OF. He becomes the 12th committed recruit in the 2025 class and the 8th player that pitches in HS.
