I just don't see the casual football watcher getting a subscription to apple. While other leagues can turn on the tv and watch their teams for "free" we get to subscribe and pay to watch our teams. It's not just getting a subscription. A lot of the casual fans see the game flipping through the channels while they are watching the main game they want to see. Turn on OSU-Cal. Enjoying the game, and during commercials and half time, you go wandering through the channels to see what's happening in UW-ASU. Heck, you might even sneak over to see a little of the Clemson-Wake Forest game, especially if it appears that an upset may be brewing. OSU-Cal ends at 4:10 pm and then you decide to catch the second half of some game on some other channel that started at 2:00 pm. With an isolated subscription service like Amazon or Apple, you don't get that. You watch the OSU-Cal game and only that game, no matter how stupid the commercials or half-time filler is unless you want to go through the pain of logging out of the app, into another, and then back into the original app. It won't be worth it on the commercial breaks.

If this topic is just to express frustration or disappointment, so be it. Much if it is true in terms of the nature of streaming vs traditional “broadcast” television. But what I think most angry posters are overlooking is the question “do we have a choice?” And I think, as the days go by it seems increasingly evident that the answer to that question is NO. The perceived value of our league by the “traditional” media partners may not be high enough to keep the league together. It may be that GK is courting Apple not to be “trendy” or “cutting edge” but because they are his only option to keep the league together. So, for all the detractors on this thread, I would ask you: Would you rather be part of the MWC and have a traditional media partner?

I cut the cord and went with a Roku device recently. Sure Apple TV is on there, but I haven't opened it once because I have Sling TV. Even on one app like Sling switching channels is less convenient than Comcast, but I have so much going on right now I hardly notice the difference. I went with Roku and Sling to get away from the ridiculous price of Comcast. Now I have to pay another $10/month for Apple just so I can watch Pac12 football? But, if I want to watch the actual Pac12 channel I have to go back to Sling. And, if I want to watch any of the broadcast channels I have to change the input on the TV to the antennae we have now (which works great BTW). Keep this up, and I will be right back where I started on price, with a WAY less convenient system.
Have to agree, going from App to App on Saturdays is a non-starter, and the pay factor will only further isolate the Pac12. Apple TV sounds interesting, but all things considered it's probably the death knell of the conference at this point.

As if, amazon, Google, ESPN, and FOX are not? LOL Ya, gotta admit he has a good point, Dude. The last crApple device I had was only 2 years old when they refused to provide critical security patches for it because it was "too old". And don't get me started on the crApple store monopoly. None of the other services mentioned have done me wrong. Mrs Dude wanted an iphone so I told her she had to get her own cell service. Yes, I'm that petty.

Yes, I'm that petty. And the 3rd or 4th time I tried to move MY music that I had painstakingly ripped from MY CDs from an iPod not being supporting any longer to a newly bought one, iTunes declared I had exceeded the device count for music not purchased from iTunes. That led me to move all my music to a device called a Brennan that was "open source". Once upon a time Mrs 2ndGen and I had iPhones, but it was hard to get to photos as well. And I too had exactly the same Mac issue you did - lack of support from Apple for a device that was operating just fine. Android phones work fine, you can get a cheap smartwatch that connects, and you have better control over music/photos. But I will pay for AppleTV if the Pac1x has a deal there..... Go Beavers!

Pac 12 Network has already proven itself to be a master of isolating itself. Here in Oregon, you can’t get it on some major satellite/cable companies. It’s pretty clear that they’re not interested in serving casual sports fans.

Did you watch any of the Thursday night games on Amazon? And every network has a + that streams content, much of it more original than what’s on their broadcast. It sucks, but companies see a profit in it.

Past and current PAC12 network policies and practices have been, and remain, so incredibly and aggressively counterproductive and self-defeating that it's almost impossible to find the words...... To paraphrase Pogo....the PAC12 has met the enemy and it turned out to have been the PAC12. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Not withstanding the concerns expressed, streaming is the future. Many people here have bragged about cord cutting over the years. The landscape will change in the next decade with a reduction of the overcrowded field of providers, but Amazon and Apple are not going anywhere. Announcing that all games will be streamed in 4K will incentivize people to migrate over or at least give it a try. I have had a 4k TV for 5+ years and have never seen a game in 4k (and I have tried).

I have had a 4k TV for 5+ years and have never seen a game in 4k (and I have tried). I signed up for a trial of youtube tv at the start of football season last year. They streamed a couple games each week in 4k. The increase in video quality was clearly noticeable. If all games were streamed in 4k, it would definitely incentivize me to migrate over.

At least the week we did the free trial the games we watched seemed to have a better picture switching back and forth between it and Sling. Between that and FUBO carrying the local network channels with a better picture than our antenna we dropped Sling. Cable alternatives will probably come and go, but streaming will probably win in the end. Starlink, or a currently unknown another like it, has the potential to replace cable internet in the not too distant future. Times they are a changin'.

I always liked the 2004 highlight video that thomasg86 put together, which originally was set to Bob Dylan's song above, if I remember right. Great video synced, once upon a time, with a great song:

The Superbowl was not captured in 4k so I doubt college football games would be either. The signal is run through an upscaling process to simulate 4k at the distribution points.
