Skyrider I understand where you are coming from there. We all would love to see all of the players make big leaps and improvements, especially if it would lead to wins. TVO has really improved defensively, and I think will continue to get better once what ever is ailing her heals up. Jelena has improved, but unfortunately with her physical limitations (Balance/Quickness) there are just some matchups that are just bad for her. Others (ie Oregon) she can make a difference. AJ to me is someone who needs to learn to be able to impact a game without just hitting a bunch of mid-range jumpers. If she can continue to improve her handle, I think she can really be a nice player, but offensively she's not the shooter than either of the two Freshman wings are, and she doesn't see the floor as well as Adlee does. I think Adlee has really good court vision. wbosh15,
Agree with your thoughts, observations here 100%.
Any idea then why Adlee was not playing more all throughout the year?
Also in regards to Jelena, it does not take balance or quickness to receive the ball in the post area and not lower it to your waist and/or lower it to your waist and dribble it. Nor does it take balance or quickness to carry out a weight lifting program that would allow you to not be pushed around by much smaller players. Those are things that strictly involve doing the work.
Have a great day!
Also where would you rate SR in terms of Coaches in the PAC 12. Right now, I have him at #8 and falling fast!

On the subject of coaches in the Pac 12. Graves in Duckland is changed his tune a lot. He used to be quite happy about blaming his players for acting entitled and not having grit etc. Then once again a lot of really good players left and are doing really well on good teams. Now Graves comments after loses consist mostly of how he needs to improve his coaching.
I think SR's status as a coach is going to depend on whether his players stick. He can't play the game of using the portal to fill spots on the team. It takes players too long to learn his system of doing things. If several players portal out then yeah, SR's days as a top coach are over. He might be able to switch how his teams play, but I'm not sure he has it in him to give it up like that.
And on Mit. She has had health issues and has really only been healthy/pain free for two years. In that time she has improved her endurance so that she can play close to 40 minutes and not be winded. For a big her size that is amazing. Her defense has markedly improved. Her offense has switched to mid range to short and it's taking some time. So for now her mid range and short range shots aren't doing very well. Give her another summer to work on it and if it isn't successful then you have reason to complain, but now? No, complaining about Mits lack of improvement isn't logical.
You can complain about SR losing too many players through the portal, but the problem is NOT lack of improvement in the players.

The old if we had better players and scored more points than our opponents, we’d be better argument. Classic!

Very informative. Thank you!
I defer to your judgment on Mit. I will look forward to her continued improvement.
Now, it will be apprehension time, as OSU fans watch the transfer portal (much more in terms of possible losses than possible gains unfortunately).

Oh, but it very much does take balance and strength to not lower the ball. Remember that there is ALWAYS contact down low when she has the ball in the post. She's not lowering the ball because she wants to, its because she isn't strong enough to keep her balance with the ball up. Having the ball up raises her already very high center of gravity. We were very spoiled with Taylor Jones. She might have been the best I've seen at keeping the ball high. I don't think folks can fully appreciate how different being that tall can be, in terms of length of limbs, center of gravity, etc. Keeping the ball high at 5'10 seems easy because your center of gravity only raises a little, it's much different at 6'5, much less 6'9.

As always you present the information in a clear and concise manner. I defer to your explanation and am glad to have a better perspective of her situation.
In your view, would she be better utilized on offense by mostly positioning her at the free throw line area? That way she could use her height and passing ability as well as be a screener. On defense of course, she would be guarding the basket area.
Also, in your view, what areas do you believe she will still be able to improve in?

I think she can still of course get stronger, and her footwork in the low post can get better. She's ok at the high post, but we would need to run more action off ball to open up passing lanes. I don't see her ever getting to a all-pac-12 player, but I think she can be a solid, change of pace backup big to Raegan.

Mit needs to work on strength training & footwork. Improving in those 2 areas over the off season will elevate her overall game to another level.
