When are “they” going to break ground on the new justice building, on HWY 20, north o’ town? That endeavor is gonna leave a mark. The $110 million bond measure goes to the voters in May. We'll see if it passes. Historically, the only bond measures that we haven't passed are ones that include a new jail. This one goes towards a new jail, new courthouse, new justice center, etc.

"Remodel" at $1,077 per square foot ($43 million total). This is the insanity that we have to deal with in Corvallis. What kind of remodel costs that much?

Industrial finishes and furnishings are expensive. They always design them with curves, lots of corners. But American requirements.

I get prevailing wages, but it shouldn't cost that much.

If they are updating anything related to MEV and/or telecomm or anything along those lines, it should cost that much on the low side. I am not going to dig into this to figure out what the actual deal is, but, unless it is like a bathroom or kitchen face lift-style remodel, it is going to be expensive.

I work with a lot of contractors in the area. The estimate is more than double what it should cost.

Its a lot cheaper to move that stuff to a colo or re-engineer the workloads and move them to the cloud.

I’m not familiar with the project, but if it is preliminary and that’s in the budgeting phase, it includes all the design, engineering, inspection, permits, govt waste, and more. That can account for much more than a reasonable person would think!

If you are going to go cheap, it's less, obviously.

There are places that you can go in Arizona to find the original internet line that connects California and Texas, for example. But I am not going to pretend that I'm an expert in the why; I am saying that numbers that I have seen for a data center remodel are North of the numbers being discussed.
