OSU has a new throws coach, David Dumble. He's from Arizona State and I know they have had some great throwers. www.osubeavers.com/news/2016/9/9/womens-track-field-dumble-named-new-throws-coach.aspx Tamara Burns was the throws coach. I don't see any information on the internet on where she is at now. Melissa Ausman, the discus thrower from Nyssa, has transferred to Concordia. She was our most likely athlete to score points at a national meet. Geena Gall left this summer for a position at UCLA. Both of the assistants from 2014 left. We had hired a guy from Washington State in late 2014 but he was gone within a couple of months. I went to a meet at Lewis & Clark this summer. There were athletes from UO, WSU, UW, Portland, Portland State, Gonzaga, and others but none from OSU. I went to the cross country meet last weekend but didn't hear anything negative. There is clearly something wrong with this program. I honestly dont know what it is, but it is embarrassing.

Melissa Ausman to Concordia is a loss but understand, she's going there to work at Concordia's world class throwing center, established by Mac Wilkins. While it may seem embarrassing for OSU to lose a national class athlete to tiny NAIA Concordia, a closer look shows when it comes to discus Concordia, because of Wilkins, is a national destination.
As far as embarrassing, much more embarrassed by Womens rowing finishing last in each race at the Pac-12 championships for the 2nd straight year. Didn't they get a new training facility and boathouse 3 or 4 years ago? Aren't those scholarship athletes? No place to go but up I guess.

I was not aware of the crew stuff. That sport gets even less attention than T&F. A couple more notes: Kinsey Gomez transferred to Idaho for her senior year and became an all-american (10th at NCAA, 33:18 10,000) Her best at OSU was 34:37. It appears funding has stalled on the next phase of the Whyte Track Complex. OSU was scheduled to hold the Pac-12 meet in 2016 or 2017 if some athlete and spectator amenities were not completed for the earlier date. Now, OSU is hosting the meet in Eugene (this sucks in many ways). www.ourbeavernation.com/capital-projects/whyte-track-and-field-center/?path=wtrack There is no transparency on the program or its funding. I think they have the full complement of scholarships, 20, but I don't know for a fact. I think there is funding for assistant coaches, a director of operations and so on, but again, I'm not sure. Concordia now competes at DII (at least for T&F). I think that means there is scholarship money available. Again, (this entire post is only conjecture) I'm not aware of how much Wilkins is still involved at Concordia. www.macwilkins.com/mens-shot-put/ That is a very interesting link from Wilkins web site regarding his coaching of Ryan Crouser.

I like the rendering - new covered grandstand extending the entire straightaway. If what gets built closely resembles that, I'll be pleased, even if it takes a couple additional years of fundraising. Looks like a great setting to watch a track meet - like old Bell Field, only better.

I asked Massaro on Twitter about the progress and he only said "we're really close." Unfortunately he didn't say by how much. Not much news on the track team in general.
