Of course, who else could it be but "Toolsy" Turley!
Freshman Of The Year
Gavin Turley, OF, Oregon State. A true five-tool talent, Turley will step into the Beavers’ lineup in right field. Reports out of Corvallis this fall were glowing, and with his tantalizing power-speed combination, advanced approach and missile arm, Turley will be an impact player immediately.
So where does he hit? You have 400'++ power to clean the bases, but you would like to put that warp speed to work on the bases early in the 1st inning. You want to maximize his PA's which means the leadoff or 2-hole, but you want runners on when he steps in, which means cleanup or the 5-hole.
Decisions . . . decisions. And you thought you wanted Mitch's job?

Hit him in the lead off spot. That is the new thing.... throughout the game he will get his RBI chances. The one guy guaranteed to get the most ABs or tie others for the most ABs per game is the lead off guy... If he starts suffering on the batting average or on base percentage make an adjustment. A order starting with... 1. Turley 2. Bazzana 3. G. Forrester is my vote

It will be interesting to see how he comes out of the gate in Surprise, and the early non conf games.......we often see guys start off on fire at the plate, only to cool off as we get into the meat of the schedule. Good PAC 12 pitching will do that. Hopefully he adjusts quickly and lights it up all season.

I’d put him in the three-spot with Forrester behind him. Easy. I might have Micah lead off, if he’s playing and consistent, followed by Bazzana.

Definitely has some swing and miss, but his tools jump at you when you watch him. I think his nickname should be Train wreck, can’t take your eyes off him no matter whether it’s good or bad

I know Micah had a good summer last year, but I still haven't seen any sign that he will make a break-through for OSU. Hope he proves me wrong, but he hasn't shown anything at the plate since he's been here.
