Baseball starts in 7 days, 15 hours and 5 minutes Good, our pitching coach hasn't been criticized in almost nine months and I've missed that. I'm sure it won't take long for that oversight to be corrected.

Gracious sakes there were only 4 assists for the entire team. This against 18 turnovers. Gruesome ratio. It’s a shame because the D and rebounding weren’t bad. But man……this offense….
Wright w the rare start: 30 minutes 2 points zero assists.

Ken Pomeroy rates UCLA as the third-best defense in the country, best in the Pac-12.
On the other side of the ball, Oregon State held UCLA to 62.
Baylor is projected to be a three-seed in the Tournament and gave up 75 to UCLA at a neutral site.
Maryland is projected to be a seven-seed in the Tournament and gave up 87 to UCLA at home.
Arizona State, Stanford, and Washington each lost by more than 15 at home and gave up more points.
Not the result that we wanted, but it was a decent showing all things considered.

It probably has more to do with our offenses slug clock eating pace than us doing anything special on defense.

Our defense played good. UCLA swarmed us, but we had plenty of open 3 pt shots that didn't fall. At one point in the 2nd half, we were 2-16, so that's a deal killer. CW had a rough night. This year is about seeing what we have for next year and player development. Schedule gets easier now. However it ends up, WT will take inventory and make changes. We add 2 more bigs next year. Jordan Pope could be Pac12 Freshman of the Year.

What I saw was much better players (with depth) out-manning their opponent. Dean Smith wouldn't have helped SCHEME against long, athletic, very quick, hard working players. ESPECIALLY defensively. They're top 10 for a reason.

Maryland does not play very fast (10th-fastest in the Big Ten) and has the nation's 24th-best defense and still gave up 87 at College Park. The glass is half empty only if you want it to be.

Here's a little factoid about last night's game. UCLA's upperclassmen played a combined total of 122 minutes. OSU's upperclassmen played a total of 47 minutes. Draw your own conclusions.
Some people will focus on the past and harp on past recruiting classes or lack of retention and say the future will be dismal. Some people will focus on this game specifically and say this is a pretty young team and the future will be better. Draw your own conclusion.

Betting that if we'd won, you'd be bitching about not winning by a big enough margin, or the bruins played crappy. It's never enough.to encouraged by a team of total rookies. There were enough positives playing a top ten team to be encouraged imo, probably not yours.

Are we going to pretend the offense isn't a game clock killer?

Ucla is an elite veteran team. Not sure if they are a #1 or #2 seed in the big dance. Cronin has done a great job getting 4 and 5 star players to buy into a defensive concept, not an easy feat. Osu doesn't have the experience or the talent at this point to best a team like Ucla. Watched Ucla last night against uo. 4 and 5 star athletes versus versus 4 and 5 star athletes. Uo leads 8-0 to start the game. Ucla puts on the clamps and leads by 18 part way through the second half. Really impressed me on both sides of the ball...hard nosed defense and an unselfish offense. I like the osu defense and the way osu plays hard. They just need a couple more pieces and development by this frosh class.

Teams have made fantastic runs in the NCAAs because of that, a final four Texas tech team, the final four George Mason squad, national runner up Butler, even in 2021 the elite 8 beavs and final four UCLA teams are examples of that too. This year's UCLA team reminds me of those and is part of the reason I have hope for future OSU squads if this group of frosh stick together. So many times the "more talented" one and done teams get beat by the "lesser" veteran squads in tourney games. It will be interesting to see how far UCLA goes this year.
