Apparently, GPII is glad to get out of Portland and that he didn't want to be there, but signed with the Blazers because they had the largest offer. And then there is this parting shot:

Golden State seems to be a uniquely good fit for his game. Given how much he's been traveled with much lower impacts, this seems like his best move. Funny though that GS couldn't afford to re-sign him, and now they can mange his new contract (I realize their roster has also had a lot of changes).
The parting shot at the Blazers is interesting; he's been generally quite congenial, so his parting shot likely has credence.

Not sure about that. Portland seems to be stuck in a rut that they can’t get out of. Seems to lack direction. Plus, he did spend time with the Warriors so he knows what a winning organization looks like.

irimi, GP2 isn't even hiding his feelings about not wanting to have been there. Plus, those two teams have about identical records and the Blazers literally just beat the Warriors the day before. So this is all Payton. This isn't something the Blazers did wrong w/ him. I agree Portland has certainly been less than great this year. But they're basically doing what was expected when the season started.

Its one hell of a rut that's for sure. Paul Allen's sister Jodi isn't as interested in opening up the checkbook as wide as Paul has done, and when you struggle to sign top free agents, it makes for an underwhelming off season. And Neil Olshey's Derrick Jones trade to Chicago along with a protected first round pick two years ago has prevented Portland from using any first round picks between then and 2028 as a trade piece. And first round picks are gold and very luring when it comes to making trades.

This year? The Blazers haven’t really been much in a while. GP2 can tell.

I stopped caring when they traded McCollum, but the trades before that irked me, too. It’s like we get a star and let him run the team.

If that's the case, what a bad look on the Trail Blazers organization, because they cleared him months ago.

GP2 given medical clearance by blazer staff and then they we’re giving him toradal shots so he could play. Something doesn’t add up

I can't believe the blazer GM still has a job after trying to trade a knowingly injured player.

That's definitely where the parting shot and bad blood is coming from. Billups had called him out for not getting on the court sooner a couple times, basically saying it is all in his head and he needs to be mentally tougher. Billups saying the issue is mentalPayton finally started playing and playing pretty well, so this must be a good "I told you so" moment for Payton. Looks like Golden State will still take him with the failed physical. Definitely a bad look for the Blazers though, especially the medical staff. I don't think it's is a bad culture or all Portland players thing, seems very specific to Gary, unless they are rushing other players back on the court too soon. Jusuf Nurkic has been battling a calf injury and they seem to not let that fully heal either...
