That is great news for Sydney! One would think a dream come true. I do have a small gripe about the PMercury person who wrote the note...they left out OSU! She did not go directly from high school to the pros, as the sentence could be interpreted

It's really hard to make it in the wnba. They are not looking for players like Syd and Mik. I was surprised that Syd got as much playing time as she did.

It's not just the numbers, it is fitting in with how the wnba wants to be played

I guess I don't watch enough WNBA to have a frame of reference. From what I've seen it looks like they want a women's version of the NBA. A lot of clearing out and playing 1 on 1 or 2 on 2. There is a preference to play flashy, athletic, players over fundamentally solid players. Even with the refs being lax with the rules there is still a lot of traveling and even double dribbles called. The difference between the men and women's game in college isn't carried over to the pros. I don't really watch them anymore because I got tired of the sloppy play.

Very concise and informative. Doesn’t sound like I’m missing much.

I watched quite a bit of Las Vegas last year. Their bench was AWFUL. Wiese is clearly a better player than 3 guards they had on their roster. Bell, Colson and Shepard did NOTHING for them. I think it's more complicated than saying Syd doesn't have a WNBA type of game. At any rate, now that she's been out of the league, it's looking like she's gonna have a hard time getting back in. I don't think Pivec is ever gonna crack a roster.

But I disagree with you on your assessment of WNBA talent..... Most of the players in the league are "flashy," they are "athletic," - but believe me, they are also fundamentally sound.... The fact that the refs are loosy-goosy in what they allow doesn't mean WNBA players are not fundamentally sound. They are. Their heater-skelter play makes their fundamental skills less noticeable - but they are there....
What you say reminds me of the days when many college fans said they didn't watch NBA because they didn't play defense. Also wrong. It's just that the style of play in the NBA makes the defense less noticeable to many fans.... Bottom line: NBA players play good defense, and WNBA players are fundamentally sound. [At least, that's how I see it.] GO BEAVS!!
