Not just Martha--and I agree with our mutual appreciation of her skills: her short/stocky power, shooting touch, drive and dish skill, and futuristic Euro dribble carries--but two pureshooters in Adlee and Lily who are unafraid to pop, to add Tudoresque treys to the offensive mix...they all make this fab five promising.
And I've not breathed a word about the astonishing Gardner/Beers tandem.

Here's hoping they don't bail on the Beavs because of poor coaching and inadequate player development!

Who knows why Coach Rueck hasn't given the rock to Martha? Maybe Coach made promises to portal transfers that he has to keep? The best way to determine if Martha can play a productive roll on this team going forward is to give Martha the rock and let her run the team. Martha has definitely demonstrated that she is capable to handle the traditional PG duties. Dare I say she does it better than anyone else on the team. Mix and match her with different combinations on the floor. If Coach Rueck watched the film from Sunday's game, Coach knows that Martha performed the PG duties very well (including defensively). I'm hopeful that given OSU WBB Team's current record, that Coach Rueck will at least give Martha more minutes in the next few games. There are many examples of quality teams with PGs on the shorter side. UCONN with 5'6" Moriah Jefferson, & 5'5" Crystal Dangerfield come to mind. Many more examples out there. Again, I don't have a problem at all with Martha getting some more playing time now. I think everyone would like to see how she would fare with more minutes. Yes, some teams have had short PGs. Even OSU did with Destiny Slocum at 5-7. But Slocum, Jefferson and Dangerfield not only had the point guard skill set, but extreme quickness. Dangerfield was ranked as the No. 1 point coming out of high school (No. 3 overall) and was a McDonald's AA, among a long list of accolades. Jefferson was a high school AA and a first-team AA at UConn. Both players are in the WNBA. I'm not saying that Martha doesn't have good skills or even decent speed/quickness but she's not comparable to these players. If you're looking for more examples, there's 5-7 Jaylyn Sherrod of Colorado, electrifying quickness; 5-6 Jayda Curry of Cal, also whippet-quick. That doesn't mean Martha is incapable of playing a lot or even starting for the Beavers. But to pretend that lack of height that is not paired with elite speed and quickness and a great overall skill set isn't relevant is just not accurate.

I noticed that Colorado's Sherrod had 7 (seven) steals against us.
Even if we're having a rough year, I don't think the sky is falling yet. We have seen a lot of improvement without the "W"s; we're close but no Cupie doll. I still have hope that they'll string together a bunch of wins before the season ends!

If Beers were going to bail on the Beavs, would she have signed up for, and lent her name to, this project this summer in Panama? Isn't that an OSU thing?

For the rest of this year, were I Scott, I'd give all 5 freshmen as much playing time as possible. There's nothing that is going to be accomplished this season, so you might as well give them experience and see what they can do. Adlee, after seeing little time most of the year, has contributed nicely the last 2 games. Lily started the year pretty well, then faltered, and has been pretty much relegated to the bench since. Give them their chance. For those of you worried about the portal, that would lessen the likelihood of their going.
And I agree wholeheartedly with those of you saying getting an experienced point guard in the portal is a must! I don't think it's gonna happen though; Scott has not demonstrated an ability to bring in a difference maker via transfer.

I'm having a difficult time understanding what you are saying? I've already pointed out in previous posts that Martha is not the 2nd coming of Sue Bird (or substitute your favorite point guard). I'm only advocating at this point, Martha is the only true PG on the team, and has done very well as a freshman, when she has been given the opportunity to play a reasonable number of consecutive minutes in a game. At the risk of over repeating, the team has much to gain by giving the young ones the majority of the minutes until this season comes to an end. Play the freshman and sophomores. Juniors and Seniors ride the pine.

Nothing will change regarding a current point guard or recruiting a top notch guard unless rueck changes his philosophy. He can't be the point guard.

I believe you have gone directly and with clarity to the root of the problem. You say "He can't be the point guard".
He however ,consciously or unconsciously,he believes that he is fact the point guard (by standing half way out on the court the whole game and calling out every play) and therefore in his mind they clearly do not require "another point guard".

I had posted earlier about why Rueck is not playing Martha as opposed to Yeaney. Not only is Yeaney five inches taller, but she is definitely quicker and faster than Martha. She's a better defensive stopper. Martha has the better overall skill set for a point guard than Yeaney, but she does not possess the elite level of quickness and speed that those shorter PGs have that enables them to overcome the height disadvantage. My response was no doubt in a sense partly directed at those posters who got so riled up about her play in one stretch of one game. She should play more because she's the only player on the roster with complete point guard skills. But I think many of the posters here should temper their expectations.

I think by now after this years win loss record the expectations of the posters would not have tempered very much no matter how Martha performed if given more minutes. I mean it would not be any worse for the team to continue losing than what they have already been doing!
Always great to view your excellent observations and perspectives! Go Beavs!

At this point in the season, with the results to date, OSU WBB Fans are not going to have unrealistic expectation of any of our freshmen, Martha included. OSU Fans recognize this season is now about next season. Freshmen & Sophomores get the lion share of the minutes, juniors/seniors ride the pine.
