Remember when/how the school to the south (soon after deciding to bring back baseball) was going to ( self-proclaimed) begin dominating NW College baseball? Now...About 15 years later, take a look at the two universities 2023 rosters. It stacks up like this: OSU: 14 players from the State of Oregon / 5 from Washington
UO: 3 players from the State of Oregon / 2 from Washington

UO: 3 players from the State of Oregon / 2 from Washington Well, obviously, the Ducks are not going to get the best from within Oregon. They'll come to us first. So looking outside for quality players seems kind of normal in that situation. I suspect if you look at the two football rosters, you might see something similar, just in reverse. In my mind, I don't care where the kid is from. I care that he loves OSU and bleeds Orange and Black. Gone are the days of recruiting kids from your own backyard.

Every coach evaluates differently. Every school recruits to their profile model and according to their needs. Speculatively, I could suggest this coaching staff is an open book. Several common threads with Beaver baseball recruits. What are they? Here are the obvious:
1. OSU recruits are high achievers, not only in baseball but other activities. Notice the large number of HS GPA's at 3.5 or higher with a few 4.0's mixed in. Those 3.3- 3.45 team GPA's every term are not happenstance, OSU recruits kids that achieve in the classroom and enter Oregon State with impressive academic profiles. Many have held student body offices, done community service or have been engaged in extra-curricular activities. 2. OSU recruits kids with leadership ability, high character and grounded in teamwork. 3. OSU recruits kids with athletic ability that have the potential to play at a high level in the P-12 Conference. Opportunity for development is a big issue. "What can we do with this guy? How much better can he be"? 4. Baseball skills are paramount. In that respect, OSU is no different than any other program. We like "fast" - fast feet, fast bats, fastballs. We like power, contact and discipline. We like fielding, throwing and smart defense. We like spin, location and command. 5. Maybe most of all, we like competitors and contributors. Kids that are Warriors and battle for all 27 outs. Kids that work hard to improve and play for each other - that's culture.

They have a commitment from the best high school pitcher in the nation for the class of 2024, he's from Portland. He will probably never set foot on their campus because of the draft but to say "Well, obviously, the Ducks are not going to get the best from within Oregon" is flat out wrong.

Noble Myer's commitment is irrelevant, he is being projected to go between the 13th and 15th selection in the MLB Draft this June. He should be drafted earlier in the first round than Mick Abel was in the 2020 draft.
The Rising Ducks baseball collective probably can't compete with that but the Main Street Collective, run by a group from the Nike Executive Suite might toss their hat in the ring just for fun.
The reality is that Wasikowski is a good recruiter, has a new facilities and is working with a dedicated baseball collective. UO is recruiting nationally and all across Canada. What they lack is tradition, and the chops to win many northwest recruiting battles. They need their focus to be in California and the transfer portal.

So don't defend the Ducks; you have no obligation to do so. In fact, you yourself understand that the kid will never really wear the yellow and green. So your point is pretty weak. Unless you think we should get more guys who commit, only to jump straight to the pros.

Waziwhoski or whatever his name is, is leveraging Nike U resources well. Lots of kids want to be a part of that, so they are not going away anytime soon. Our program is built on blood, sweat, and tears, over decades......we are not the same. Also, if you play the "blue chip" recruit game in baseball, you are likely to lose a lot of your class to the draft.

Our last great team...
Adley OR Luke H WA Bryce CA Abel. CA Chamberlain NV Eisert OR Pearce OR Mulholland WA Zach T. OR Nick M CA Cadyn NV Gretler WA Armstrong OR Malone CA Nobach WA Anderson OR Kwan. CA Larnach CA
6 out of 18 from Oregon. The whole..."we don't need great player we need the right players" thing has been misinterpreted in my view. We need great players, we just need the right great players. To get into a pissing contest with the ucks over who has recruited better in Oregon is not the biggest deal for us based on the current roster and recent history.
