Josh Johnson has been on the 49ers since well before the playoffs...and played for the 49ers in 2020 and 2021. The 49ers were done when Purdy went down. They knew they were done, and they went in to the game knowing they would be done if that were to happen. They are playing the NFLs #1 scoring offense (by 8 pts) on the road, and the NFLs #2 defense...in their crib. The goal is to get to the superbowl. There was really no reason to carry a #3QB. At that point your just praying to leave Philly with no major injuries. The 49ers are in good shape to win it all next year barring injury...and should get some decent draft capital dumping 2 QBs. I really don’t know if anyone is going to be willing to give up anything substantial for Trey Lance. What has he shown that would make an NFL team think he’s a front line starter? Very True. I've read 49ers would take a 3rd round pick for him. That's not at all a steep price for a former 1st round pick by a QB needy team. 49ers might be stuck with him...and boy did they pay a ton to get him. He did win the starting job to open the season. With the addition of MCcaffrey and a healthy Kittle, I think he would have had a good season, particularly with his superior mobility, which was one of the reasons 49ers chased after him so hard. But we will never know. And may never know!

Funny how a player can be "worthy" of being a #3 pick right out of college but then less than two years later, with almost no evidence - good or bad - of how productive of an NFL QB he may become, the best you can hope for is to get a 3rd round pick for him. There are always new, shiny draft picks. A lot of mock drafts have recently been showing teams move to #1 to draft : Will Levis? I just don’t see it.

49ers should have at least had a QB on the Practice Squad that could be called up for post season. With what QB? Purdy is likely looking at TJ surgery - I don't think they can count on him being ready at all for next season. And I can't see them trusting any QB to last the season at this point - I can't imaging them dumping 2 QBs, maybe not even 1 - all 3 QBs are a long ways from proving to be healthy.

They are saying he needs a simpler procedure. Not full TJ surgery. They are estimating he is out 6 months.

No. Teams are not going to draft him expecting he's their guy if their first four QBs get hurt.
I expect he'll get a free-agent shot.
Reading Brady to the 49ers as a one-year stand in for either Purdy or Lantz. Purdy might have the surgery that Verberg did, not a complete reconstruction (Tommy John). Can't see them spending any more money on Jimmy G.

I've read it's a complete tear of the UCL, but also that throwing a football is far less stressful on your UCL than throwing a baseball. I don't really know if it's the surgery that will be easier, or if the rehab will be easier, or both.

My friends son in HS had TJ surgery during football season (ans played after the surgery) and he's already throwing a baseball. He can't pitch this year but they think he'll be fine to play in field by start of season. Perhaps him missing the start of season is a blessing to allow Lance to start the season and prove his merit. Or a curse haha

I,m guessing you had the same opinion prior to the start of this year no? The 49ers started the season with a dude with no experience and every intention to trade JG. They nearly made the SB with their 3rd stringer. The 49ers could bring in 3 new QBs this year and they are a contender. There is a ton of talent on that team.
