Billy Packer, did 34 final fours many with Jim Nance. Great color guy who didn’t take himself too seriously. One of his famous lines was “ Simon says championships “ as Miles Simon lead the wildcats to the title.

If you ever lived in the Southeast, you remember Packer teaming with Jim Thacker on ACC broadcasts on Jefferson-Pilot and presented by CD Chesley. Maybe the best basketball duo ever.

Oregon State beat Cuse 31-13, and it was not that close. Nance had a 10-game touchdown streak in the 1964 season, so the Orangemen did everything that they could to get Nance a fourth quarter touchdown to pull within 31-13. Nance had the most rushing yards in the game, 69 yards on 20 carries. Oregon State lost the Rose Bowl 34-7 behind a completely disinterested Tommy Prothro. Syracuse went to the Sugar Bowl and barely lost to the Tigers in what was basically a home game, 13-10.
