Rankings are always interesting from an opinion perspective. One recruiting site may offer a widely different opinion from another site and player ranking differentials may vary by as much as several hundred slots. This a sampling of three different sites that ranked the Top-5 prep recruits in the Beaver's 2022 class. Chances are you will disagree with all 3 - so, what is your opinion/ranking?
RAWLINGS-PERFECT GAME: 1. Gavin Turley 2. Ely Kennel 3. Dallas Macias 4. Jacob Krieg 5. Easton Talt
D1 BASEBALL: 1. Gavin Turley 2. Easton Talt 3. Nelson Keljo 4. Canon Reeder 5. Jacob Krieg
PREP BASEBALL REPORT: 1. Gavin Turley 2. Dallas Macias 3. Isaac Hill 4. Nelson Keljo 5. Logan Miller

For me, Turley is clearly one with some reservations.
Long term, Talt, Krieg, Reeder and Kennel in that order. With Macias close to cracking the top 5.
I think Krieg has more short term impact than Talt, but Talt leaves as one of the best players we've had recently.

What might be most revealing is that only 1 player appears in the Top 5 of all three sources (Turley).
In other words, even the #2 on each of the three lists, wasn't even ranked as a Top 5 universally (on all 3 lists).
Given that, I'll not even attempt a top 5.

In the three Top-5 lists, 10 players were ranked.
I see that as testimony to how deep the talent runs in this class.

Never let the burden of foresight get in the way of hindsight.
With hindsight, everybody is an expert.
Foresight requires insight. Hindsight requires a rear view mirror.
'24 or '25 is akin to taking a test when you have been given all the answers.
To what purpose would you even rank the class 3 years from now?

I believe his point is ranking them now is about as useful as pre-season team rankings. We have no idea which of these kids will reach their potential, exceed it, or not reach it.

One of the things I like about Baseball America is, they are always careful to point out in player rankings, the rankings are based upon high school performance and not college or pro potential.
When they rank high school players for the MLB Draft, it is based solely on pro potential. There will be disparities - a player might rank higher as a pro prospect than he did as a high school performer and vice versa.
Our OSU player rankings for the most part are based on high school performance not college potential. Ranking players based on college potential involves a lot more guess work and frankly, too many variables (Injury, attitude, overrated, etc). Two good examples are Wade Meckler (walk-on that was cut, then drafted in the 8th rd. by the Giants) and Tyree Reed (Ranked #1 nationally for 5 months by PBR, but has yet to take his 1st AB in college).
