DESCRIPTIVES:  Uber-athletic, fast, good arm, tracks well in OF, ultra competitive, lean, muscular frame with additional mass potential,humble, coachable.

PITCHING METRICS: High 3/4 arm slot with long arm action. Throws a 2-seam fastball with 88-90 velo, touches 91. Has a 1-7 curveball at 79 mph - short,hard bite.  Fluid delivery with good balance. Ball jumps out his hand. 

ASSESMENT: From his film, his ceiling is 30' high. college Velo projection would easily be mid 90's, fastball rides through the zone but needs additional movement on the heater, the curve needs polishing and refinement and he'll need to develop a change up. Didn't see any obvious location problem. A partially refined, partially raw young pitching prospect with Coach Dorman licking his chops to get with this kid - Many of the same qualities I saw with Christian Chamberlain at nearby Reno HS in 2017. The fallback of course - he's a really good outfielder. Prediction-He will begin his OSU career on the bump.

HITTING METRICS:  Sixty: 6.81, OF Velo: 90, Exit Velo: 91, narrow, upright stance, stays behind with a quick load and weight transfer. compact swing with moderate upward plane (he hits home runs). Has plate discipline and has been making some extensive swing changes since last summer (weight distribution and eliminated a leg kick). Swing is evolving - he's 17 years old.  

ASSESSMENT: Outfield play - good glove, good arm and good speed. Need to see his jump on the ball and in-game acton-not on the film I saw.

RECRUITING:  Had recruiting interest from Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, Nevada, Gonzaga, St. Marys and others. Committed to Gonzaga on November 22, 2022 and decommitted on December 15, 2022. Committed to Oregon State on January 22, 2023.

BOTTOM LINE:  One word . . UPSIDE!  College coaching and a college strength & Conditioning will do wonders for this athletic, young recruit. Thomas is the 7th pitcher and 14th member of the 2024 Oregon State recruiting class.
