Four PAC - 12 teams are ranked.
No. 4 Stanford No. 12 UCLA No. 18 Oregon State No. 20 Oregon
Open questions about OSU's pitching rotation has plagued the Beavs in the early polls. Jacob Kmatz - Trent Sellers - Jaren Hunter doesn't seem to be resonating with the pollsters.
Ryan Brown and Ben Ferrer on the other hand, have instilled confidence in the OSU Bullpen.
Going to be an interesting journey this year.

Pollsters need to look past the star power. Just having Mundt and Lattery back is going to add some serious grit to the bullpen. Hell Lattery can do extended innings and starting too if they want him too. It's looking like another decent depth year if some guys like Boisvert and Quinn improve.
We did lose a lot of experience and leadership with Hjerpe, Frisch, Sebby, Pfennigs, and Verburg moving on. Carpenter also went up (doing decent in minors).

At the start of the year last year, I think we were in a similar position regarding pitching. We lost pitchers, temporarily or for the season, to injuries, yet still managed to field a competitive (and outstanding in some regards) pitching staff.
If the pollsters need to be shown this again, I'm sure we can accommodate them.

And the big, open question becomes a much smaller one. You'd think the pollsters would recognize by now that we don't rebuild, we reload

If you are a good college baseball program you should be replacing pitchers…if not they aren’t that good or maybe you failed at recruiting two consecutive years and somehow happened on a world beater class that is all underclassmen. Since I’m old school more interested in how the south paws are developing and what impact the new left arms can have. There’s a whole lot of talent on OSUs pitching staff.

The baseball writers do not have insider knowledge or a comprehensive perspective of the OSU baseball program. A college baseball program is multi-faceted or layered - they see two layers, the roster/stats and recruiting activity. They don't see what is taking place in drills, practices, the cages, or the classroom teaching sessions.
It's no secret, Oregon State excels at player development. Scouts know that, opposing coaches know that, and recruits know that. OSU is the best at squeezing every last ounce of potential from a young player. Beaver coaching staffs send players to the Pro's - that's why a Cooper Hjerpe or a Gavin Turley choose to play in Corvallis, Oregon (it isn't the warm, balmy weather or wild Corvallis night life that brings them). "Be all that you can be" . . . I think the US Army pilfered that theme from OSU baseball.
Player development is a layer the writers neither have access to or understand and that is OSU's stock in trade, certainly the key to success. Every staff has the same basic wish - they want their teams to get better, improvement is a great motivator for players and coaches. That is part of the Beaver culture and why we usually finish stronger than we start (last year might have been an exception).
The rankings are based on what is perceived and looking at those top two layers of the program. Beneath those two surface layers, lie another 4 or 5 layers that aren't visible to a scribe based in Durham, North Carolina. Hence, we end up being "under-ranked"

So the initial ranking may be accurate for what it is- the early ranking, not where they’ll end up.

Other pubs, who I would argue aren't as in tune, and typically don't give us the benefit of the doubt (SEC/southern school bias) have us ranked higher. Ultimately, none of it really matters. We have the potential to be right in the mix, or fade, depending on how our season unfolds.

Consolation - D1 lists the Beavs as one of the schools that just missed the Top-25. Methinks a fast start and we are quickly ranked.
