Pretty amazing play on a couple counts.
1. *ucks drew up the play as an “elevator” screen to free Gray (coming from the opposite side) for an open 3. Mannen stuck to Gray like glue, threaded the needle on the attempted screen. It looked like she knew exactly what they were trying to do. Screen was sloppy with Gray running into one side of it. Noelle just needed a sliver of space and it was there.
2. Gray’s shot has a low release point to begin with, nose/eye level. Combine that with a high pass from Rogers that Gray had to bring down to waist level to initiate her shooting motion, and the 5’-6” Mannen was able to get her mitt to 5’-9” Gray’s shot, right as it left her hand.

The block was great but what she did after the block was important. Instead of celebrating she stayed on gray and got a hand in her face on the next shot.

Good defensive plan in general. Gray was hitting shots out of poor defensive zone rotations earlier in the game, some more out of bad personnel matchups than actual execution issues.

Also, this defensive play stands out because we gave up so many wide open 3s to the duck guards all game long.

Beers and Blacklock get the most amped up always and near the end of the video you see Raegan give a very gentle shove to SR, knowing her, she will apologize later.
We can hope experiences like that , crowd and all, will stick in players minds when/if they think of moving on early !

At 9.2 seconds Mannen was the furthest Beaver from the point at which Gray would take the shot.
She then headed straight toward Gray, spilt the double screen, and blocked the shot at 6.3 seconds. In those 2.9 seconds she showed why Rueck has the ultimate level of confidence in her.
That takes me back to Seasons 2017/18 - 2021/22, when Rueck consistently demonstrated his supreme confidence in another player (even as a Freshman). She wasn't a bigtime Stat Leader, but she had smarts and was a 'glue' player, so Scott wanted her out there at any and all important points in a game:
Taya Corosdale.

Speaking of players being amped up - I've re-watched (a dozen times) Talia's looping pass to AJ / screen by Timea / AJ's super athletic reception of pass in the air - followed by the layin. It was right in front of the Beaver bench, which of course, exploded. It was Martha Pietsch that clearly led the explosion. If it were the Kentucky Derby, or an Olympic sprint or diving event, Martha's 'jump' on the field would be epic. That was really nice to see, coming from a player that has had her minutes dwindle. Team. Team. Yes.

Pretty much the way I felt at the end of the game Schatz sounds so disappointed when Gray's shot doesn't fall.

She, and we, will always have that. Just a bit behind Jake Cookus's 3 picks of Joey H.

Unreal effort on her part to seal the win. Watching it maybe a dozen times, I just can't say enough about it.
GO BEAVS!
