Starts in the linked video around 7:45:
Thought Graves made a few interesting points. Described the rivalry as "different" (I'm assuming he meant compared to the Ionescu, Pivec, Hebard, etc. years) now. I think it's probably the same for a lot of fans -- who don't like losing to one another. Said it still probably means a lot to Scott, who, as Graves alluded to, has orange in his blood, but I think there's a few reasons it may not feel the same.
1. Mark Campbell leaving UO. There was a time when he had recruited the majority of players on both teams and was ultimately responsible for a large number of the players that he had heavily recruited at OSU going to UO. I think this definitely heightened the rivalry in a way.
2. A decent number of players had been recruited by both teams. I believe we were runner up for Sabally and Hebard, heavily recruited Ionescu (and I think a few others like McGwire, Campisano, etc.), and I believe got Boley on a visit. Given that we had a lot of PNW players over those years you'd think Oregon at least showed little interest in them at some point. I don't think we heavily recruited anyone on their current roster (maybe Paopao?) and don't believe anyone on our roster besides maybe Timea was highly recruited by UO.
3. UO has very few players from PAC-12 footprint. Really just Basham and Paopao. OSU on the other hand has two starters from Oregon, one from Washington, and one from both WA and CA. Plus two more from Utah and Colorado.
4. Neither team is quite as relevant nationally as they were during the Ionescu years. It was pretty consistently a top-25 battle and even top-10 at times.

If his claim is that the rivalry isn't the same as when both teams were loaded with top-level players and ranked in the Top 10, fair enough. Other than that, how big of him to try and diminish the importance of the rivalry after his team lost. Did he make a similar claim after his team beat the Beavs earlier this season?
Yeah, thought not.

Thanks for the summary. It saves me from having th click the link and listen to his lame rationalizations.

I think Graves point about the game being “different” is probably also recognizing how the portal has changed the culture at these programs. In general, players now, at least so far, are shuffling in an out of programs and fewer players sticking with a program for a 4 year college playing career. It has to effect how a rivalry “feels”, I should think.
Also, it’s pretty clear this was recorded before the game was played.

Yeah, thought not. That video was from Wednesday, so I would say technically yes that was from when his team beat the Beavs earlier this season.
