Neither of our statements are really correct, I was using rankings as short hand. No, your statement on how SOS is calculated is incorrect. And SOS can't really be "gamed," I think you are mixing up SOS and rating systems, as I said. SOS is one aspect used by rating systems. Rankings are a separate thing altogether. Ah, nevermind...I see what you meant now.

I loved the Beaver win last night as much as anyone. It was doubly delicious since it came over Graves and the Ducks. The team was tough and gritty and TvO showed signs of her better self... But, despite the great win, this team has the same problems today as yesterday and the day before. It has not a single consistent 3-point shooter and a good team needs at least 2; it is very weak in perimeter defense; it often falls under apart under intense defensive pressure; and, it has below average team speed. Mitrovic played well and everyone was a bit giddy about what a good showing she had. Well, look at the numbers and see what they tell us: she was 4-9 from the field; she was 1-3 from the FT line; she had a total of 3 offensive boards, and she committed 3 turnovers. For a 6-9 starting center in the PAC - these numbers are not special - not even close. Mitrovic should be delivering games like last night on a routine basis. I'm still a fan. Have been for a long time. Will be for longer. But I have a very good memory, and I have no recollection of a team short on speed, and weak at shooting ever making its way to the tourney. Ever.GO BEAVS!! I think you are pretty much the voice of reality here, but we also want to listen to the voice of hope. Mitrovic starts, but she's actually the 'backup' center (mpg will show this), and as your number two center, she's a pretty good player. I would say only Stanford has a better one/two in the post. Sure team speed and a true point guard would help but your point about 3pt shooting is the bottom line. This team may not be considered quick but it has enough speed. We could argue about team speed. They would be a tournament team if it had a Chance Grey type player, and Talia hitting 3's the way she has in the past. The inside game is solid, but you can't live on the interior game alone, and right now there isn't anyone to keep the defense from collapsing on the inside game. A Kat Tudor or Aleah Goodman, etc would make this team a tournament team. So for now, the hope is that Talia gets her shot back, and someone else steps up and starts hitting 3's. I think there should be big hope for this next season, but we are 2/3 the way through this season, so the likelihood of it happening this season is not great, but it is still possible (and a big hope for us fans) It's likely the Beavs need 4, possibly 5 more wins, to make the NIT, and probably 7, but maybe 6 wins, before the Pac12 Tournament to make the NCAA. I don't see 6 or 7 wins left in the schedule, but I'm always hopeful. Getting 5 more wins before the Pac12 tournament is a big ask considering what we have seen to date. The games against UCLA, Oregon, and Arizona would tell you it's possible. The play against Washington and Washington State would lend you to believe it's not possible.

The seldom used tool that the team has on offense is that Talia, Beers and Timea are deadly from the mid range. If Beers is by the basket and the team passes the ball to Timea at mid range then whoever is defending her has to stay there and leave Beers defender alone or switch and Timea can shoot and from mid range I don't remember her missing an open shot yet. OSU tends to have a hole at mid range because it's a bad option shot. But for OSU I think it's a very high % shot.
