It's weird, but none of the players who transferred out of OSU has done very well and some really badly. Whereas the Duck transfers have frequently done extremely well. A common theme for most of the players out of OSU is problems with fouling, but OSU is always one of the top 10 teams for not fouling. After learning SR's style of defense they can't unlearn it? Slocum had a nice season at Arkansas. Goforth also had a pretty decent season last year. Savannah, Greta, and Taya have not been having great years, but Kennedy has been a solid role player on a good Duke team. Jones has been dealing with injuries, but not one of her better years. Duck transfers have been doing pretty well. Their individual talent was much better than their team suggested during that COVID year.

Watched No. 25 Texas beat No. 18 Iowa State on Sunday (Texas had a tough loss to Texas Tech yesterday and might drop out of top 25 for now). Anyway, watched Taylor Jones quite a bit. She seems to be playing pretty well. Makes her shots and didn't have a lot of dumb fouls. Texas is guard-heavy and seems to spread time a little more evenly among the bigs. Jones has missed nine of 19 games this season but she averages 19.1 minutes a game. I expect her play to get even better the more she plays this season. I know the Beavers definitely could use a player like her or Brown right now. Of course, a point guard is the biggest need but having an extra player in the frontcourt would help immensely.

Taylor is struggling this season. Shooting percentage is low for her. It may all have to do with her injury. Last night Duke lost to North Carolina. The two former Beavers were 0-10 combined shooting and scored 2 points. Kennedy had improved her shooting percentage quite a bit this season, but last's nights 0-7 hurt. She sure isn't rebounding as well as she did at Oregon State. We have a real keeper in Raegan who probably isn't as good a defender as Kennedy, but is a better all around player than both Kennedy and Taylor.

Watching the Duke vs NC game last night, KB was unable to make a 2 foot shot last night, similar to what I remember at OSU. When KB plays against solid defensive posts, KB is not going to get many buckets. I feel we got the better end of the in's & out's of the Tranfer Portal, given that KB & Taya leaving OSU gave Raegan (and Timea) lots of experience this season. "We have a real keeper in Raegan who probably isn't as good a defender as Kennedy YET, but is a better all around player than both Kennedy and Taylor." Raegan is already a pretty solid defender as a freshman. Not quite the shot blocker that Taylor or Kennedy are YET. Raegan has all the makings of a future star on defense.

Taylor Jones averages 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and has 21 blocks in 10 games, which leads the team even though she has only played in 10 of 19 games. Beers is a better inside scorer than both Jones and Brown and probably a better rebounder than both (but not by a huge margin). They are both better defenders than Beers at this point. Not sure why OSU fans keep pointing to what former players are doing for other teams as if it proves something negative about them and positive about OSU. They're in different situations, the biggest difference is they are playing for better teams and not getting as much time on the court.

Actually, in Jones' case, she's probably at least an equal rebounder to Beers. She did lead the Pac-12 in rebounding average with 8.9 in 2020-21 and averaged 7.3 in 19-20. She averaged 12.3 points both seasons. She would be huge for the Beavers if she had stayed.

I'm not trying to suggest that i can tell Scott how to coach, but my biggest worry is that we are going to loose some of these young ladies like last year. He has the potential to have a very good team. He needs to see where the future is and give them the playing time. Jalena is 6" 9" and that is all she is. Mannion should get about 10 miinutes and I'm a big fan of hers. I will be surprised if we don't loose 4 or 5 of these Freshman girls. AJ, Beers, Gardiner , TVO and Martha should start and Lilly should get at least 10 minutes. Way way too much dribbling and passing up open shots. We are continuously dribbling into the key and stopping. Set screens and then get out of TVO"S way and let her create or pass off. Frustration is settling in on me and I know it is on the team. Blowing a 12, 7 and 9 point 4th Qt leads. Falling behind by over 20 points at home against an average team. I mostly agree, my only concern is that Martha has a LOOONG way to go on D. I can see where Scott is torn here. I don't care for Bendu at the point. She is not enough of a threat around the arc to manipulate the defense. Teams have caught on and are now backing offer her leaving the rest of the team to play 4 on 5. Very good defender. Terrible primary ball handler...everything stagnates in the half court.

At this point in the season, we should play all 11 on this team. Giving most minutes to Raegan, Timea & TvO. After that, split the minutes however, but we shouldn't have any one player getting < 8 minutes. Equal opportunity basketball is cancer to a team

Some players may believe they’ve earned more, so the coaches have to make it clear the steps needed. I doubt anybody riding the pine is unclear why, and unnecessarily sacrificing win opportunities to work on those deficiencies shouldn’t be on the table.

My comment had absolutely nothing to do with equal opportunity, or equal playing time. My comment was specifically about pressing more and using our bench. Not the entire game, but more than we are today. If you are following WCBB this season, there are teams who are deploying 10+ and having great success because they are pressing the entire game. I have also noticed that when OSU coaches have chosen to put on a serious press (not a soft press) we have had success in either getting a TO, or, not permitting the opponents offense to set up without some struggle. Too often our opponent faces zero pressure and we allow them to set up in their offense. If you watch Duke, as an example, their opponent can barely get the ball across the half court line, and have very few seconds to get their offense started. Not only that, but the opponent's players legs are weak by Q4.

Not only that, but the opponent's players legs are weak by Q4. Duke has a swarm of good experienced players. This is not the case at OSU. Rueck's defense is consistently one of the best in the country, it has just taken longer to get there the past couple of seasons because of injuries and transfers leaving freshmen starting.
