Bringing his 67 year career as broadcaster for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers to an end this Fall. What a glorious run. What a shining example of sustained professionalism.
Thank you Vin. For everything.

My favorite saying of Vin's is "deuces wild". What are some of your favorite sayings, BH friends?

Here's a few I can remember clearly...
"Andre Dawson has a bruised knee and is listed as day-to-day (pause). Aren't we all?"
"Forget it." ... the simplistic HR call
"He pitches as though he's double-parked." about Bob Gibson
And my fav considering I'm posting on this board...
"Statistics are used much like a drunk uses a lamp post: for support, not illumination."

He is a living legend, one of the greatest of all time. Will be a sad day when Vinny starts calling them up there in Heaven for the big guy.

I watch a lot of Dodger baseball on league pass or whatever it's called.
I'm consistently amazed at how much research he does and how prepared he is.
The opposing team could bring in a no-name rookie reliever in the bottom of the 8th and not only does Vin know the traditional bio (school, hometown, minor league stats, pitch types), but he will inevitably know pretty much everything else - what the kid had for breakfast, his high school mascot, exactly who taught him that splitter, mom's occupation, all about that 2nd cousin who pitched in the Royal's organization and so on. He's one of a kind.
And now, back to the game...

I am a huge Giants fan and cannot stand the dodgers.
But hey...Scully might be the best announcer in any sport at any level. I think he is.

Something I've often pondered is, since Vin is so good, why don't more young announcers attempt to emulate him. The Pac-12 network should make every TV announcer they hire listen to a specified number of hours of Mr. Scully announcing games. I really, really do not like to listen to a "Color" man whose main purpose in life seems to be to let his listener's know that he at one time played pro ball. Sure it's something to be proud of but, I want to hear about the players and the game I'm watching, that's all. Another announcer I always liked was Dick Enberg. He started out doing the Friday Night Fights at the Olympic in L.A. and then moved up to UCLA Basketball. He was pretty good.

"Andre Dawson has a bruised knee and is listed as day-to-day (pause). Aren't we all?" LMFHO (laughing my frickin' head off). The others were good too.
