Pretty simple, if you can't field 7 players you can't play the game.

That's very unusual. Hopefully they get back to full strength soon.

Except for the Covid era, can anyone remember a Pac-12 team forfeiting 2 weekend games because of insufficient players?? Maybe it occurs more than I recall...I haven't researched it...Maybe someone will.
The games were forfeited at least 48 hours before game time - maybe more...So the ASU staff is looking at injuries that are more than aches and pains....Injuries that are severe enough that the Staff says the players won't be ready for action 2 or 3 days down the road.....
Personally, I'm waiting for more info on this one......ASU played the Beavs on Sunday - about 72 hours before they suddenly don't have a roster....On their website they list 14 players on their current roster....Against OSU on Sunday the Box Score indicates 8 ASU players took the floor - so they had a pretty thin roster at the time..... A team without a conference win with a 14 player roster can't make a tough road trip. Like I say - I'm waiting for more info on this one.... GO BEAVS!!

Uconn is in the same boat except their's is postponed with make up dates set. And I don't recall it happening before.

Anybody know why this is even a rule? UConn could likely win many of their conference games just suiting up 4 players.

Just a guess, but I would imagine they're trying to protect the integrity of their game. They wouldn't want a current D1 school deciding they'll eliminate scholarships and high priced coaches, just go with walk ons and a clerk from the AD to coach them, and stay in D1 in order to collect a piece of the big television pot. So they make rules like this. Once again, just a guess.

Or they could be trying to protect the players from injuries related to overuse. Tired muscles don't offer the same support to joints.
If you have 5 players and someone gets hurt or fouls out, or 6 and both happen what should happen? Immediate forfeit of the game? Play 4 on 5?

I remember during the LaVonda era we played Arizona (January 2008) and in the fourth quarter they only had two players left that had not fouled out. The game played to the end and we won. Never saw anything like that before or since!!

Yes, but the rule is 7 scholarship players, not just 7 players. You could get X number of walk ons to bring your roster up to 7 or more. I'm thinking this must be a relatively new rule. Scott didn't have anything close to 7 scholarship players his first year here.
