I know this style of music isn't necessarily everyone on this board's cup of tea. But growing up in the 70's hit after hit produced, written and/or arranged by this guy seemed to always be on the top 40 and to me at least, those sounds were irresistible.
Producer, arranger, conductor, songwriter Thom Bell 1943-2022

It’s a great sound. Loved, “I’ll be Around!” Came out my rookie year in high school. So did the album, “Can’t Buy a Thrill.” A different sound, but I’ve loved Steely Dan ever since. Donald Fagan mentioned Bell as an influence.

Few realize Dick Clark & American Bandstand started in Philadelphia, in the Chubby Checker era. That city has an impressive R&R/R&B/blue-eyed soul musical history.

His unique talent was taking classical music instrumentation (strings, low brass, harp, timpani, etc) and making it legitimately funky, sly and soulful.

The Spinners...awesome. I'm partial to "Rubberband Man."
A lot of great R&B in the 70s.
