Glad for the win. Echo the thoughts of believeinthebeavs - Martha and Noelle are not tall but play big. Couple of things that really stood out for me- a lot of really long cross court passes in the half court offense. Rather new style - and not a lot of use of screens. Rueck trying new things - ??!! Also, Beers spends A LOT OF TIME in the key. I'm curious when the refs are going to start calling 3 seconds. Love her play and hustle. GO BEAVS! Good point about the passing, Adlee did this in HS and continues to fling one handed cross court passes, I assumed they would coach some of that out of her. Noelle does great "under the arm of the defender" bounce passes. I defer to the smarter basketball minds on here about passing styles. Time in the key: I figured Jelena would love the smaller American key and she seems to use it well, gets few 3 second calls. Raegan grew up with it, will see if she gets the calls this season No press conference showing up, so far, here is the site for later games, roll down a bit for WBB: www.youtube.com/@osubeaversathletics/featured

Ralph Miller used to say that there were only two basketball players that knew how to do the "bounce pass" correctly. Bob Cousy was one......and you're looking at the other one! Ralph hated the bounce pass!

It has been determined there are other ways to play basketball than the Ralph Miller way.

I'm looking forward to seeing how many minutes our freshmen get this weekend as PAC-12 play begins. Will Adlee & Lily get minutes? Will Martha have a significant role at the point? It seems Bendu is struggling to find her role on this team. I don't think Bendu playing the point is natural. I am hopeful that Bendu's contributions are significant this weekend, and she isn't forcing play. GO BEAVS! My guess is that if the Beavs are struggling hitting 3s this weekend (which has been the case all year) Coach will insert Adlee to see if she can hit a few from the perimeter....If she can, she will get ample more floor time.... Of all our perimeter shooters, I think Adlee has given the best indication that she can nail a 3 with a quick release.... At this stage of the season Rueck must be hyper-frustrated because Jan. 1 is almost here and he has not found a single 3-point threat (besides Talia) - and his offence requires not only good but excellent 3-point shooters.... Without reliable 3-point-shooters Rueck's offence is fairly easy to defend. He's obviously hoping one will emerge, but it's hard to figure who it's gonna be.....No one has yet stepped up. No one. But I sure hope someone does. The question is, based on the 12 games played thus far, who could it be? GO BEAVS!!

Based upon what I see in warmups, Lily has the potential to be a big contributor of 3’s. She has a quick release, but just hasn’t adjusted to the in-game environment. The same was initially true of Adlee, but she seems to be gradually coming around.

beavesteve: I hope you're right about Lily....It would make a big difference to our season if Lily OR Adlee suddenly turned the corner. If they BOTH suddenly became game-time shooters it could change the trajectory of the entire season....(Always hoping!) GO BEAVS!!

No one has mentioned this yet, but I was struck by how quick NCCU's PG was able to bring the ball up the floor. I believe it was Jerni Kiaku, but I may be wrong.... Anyway, watching her blow by players that had a head start up the floor (from both teams) made me think that recruiting really quick, shift PGs couldn't be that hard. But if lightening quick PGs are a dime a dozen, how come we are 14th or 15th in line for them? Go Beavers!

Lily has to prove herself at this level, and she hasn't done that yet. I believe in her though. Same with Adlee. She shows some promise but and has a decent percentage from 3, but hasn't played enough to show us she can do it on a regular basis. Aaron is off to a rough start shooting the 3, and wasn't overly impressive last year at a lesser talented school. She had some good shooting percentages at USC though, so perhaps she can turn it around. Talia even seems a little off this season from 3, but her overall game has improved. Do you know who has the best 3pt shooting percentage from 3? and who has the second best shooting percentage on the team behind only Raegan? Martha.
Dismiss her for being short if you want, but she is just proving to be a smart player game in and game out. Might be the most consistent player on the team. Has numbers very similar to Aleah's freshman year (better shooting percentage, but not as good from 3). Probably the best mid-range shooter on the team. Until someone knocks her off the perch, she is the best 3pt shooter on the team. I do expect someone to rise to the occasion at some point, but so far, it's Martha.

I think Lily has the potential to be a very good 3 pt shooter in time. She has the quick release and seems to like the coffin corner. Adlee similarly has shown promise. I pegged Martha to be one to contribute early on, but she is turning into a very pleasant surprise and seems to have a very high ceiling. Talia came into the season a 38% three point shooter, and so far is lagging that this season. I think she has improved her rebounding this season for sure, but I thought we saw crisper passing from her last season (though it might just be she had played with that roster longer and knew where to place the ball). We may have been spoiled over the last few years - note that 6 or 7 of the top 10 three point shooters in our history were present on the teams from 2014 onward (and often more than one at a time). Now the interesting question is if the SR system made them so, or they were just deadeyes coming in - for example Aleah was not a 3 point shooter of note before her sophomore year here). Because this is the poorest 3 point shooting team I have seen in the SR era, and one has to wonder if we can gain/regain our touch from beyond the arc this season. We have usually made teams pay for packing the paint, doubling bigs, laying off defending the arc to our advantage, but we have also usually had someone or two shooting nearly 40% standing out there. Go Beavers!

I've been critical of OSU's lack of speed/quickness under Rueck, but the NCCU point guard was possibly the quickest player I've seen. Unbelievable. Top level speed as well. I think Pietsch was able to hang with her to an extent and had a really strong game overall. I'm thinking she might be perfect for the Beavers moving forward, but they should try to bring other PGs in.

Aaron is looking like she's starting to find her footing with the team. Really nice game. Mannen played a lot, but she passed the ball well and was tough on defense. I think Pietsch is starting to just take over at the point. Really looking the part. Bendu just isn't there at this point and probably is what she is. I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of Pietsch moving forward. Had several moments on offense both shooting the ball and passing. Beers just should be getting the most minutes at post. Mit should be coming off the bench for her. I know they can play together, but I don't think that's the best scenario. I believe that Beers can be a major focal point on offense for the Beavers moving forward as long as she's playing the post. And whenever Timea gets on the court, that will mean finding minutes for her. Wanted to add some stuff on Beers here but it's been too long to edit...when I say that I think Beers should be getting the most minutes at post, I'm not just basing it on her performance against NCCU. She was dominant, but clearly the opposition had no viable answer for her. I do believe SR should work on making her a focal point of the offense. I think she needs some refinement overall (learning to use her size and strength against taller opponents, etc.) and developing a midrange game is necessary (or going to it more often if she has a good one). I really believe that she has the ability to become a star level player.
