Hasn't even been on campus. Will start class January 9. Seeked out osu. Spring drills should be soooo fun. And he will likely be the best ever QB to come out of OSU. Book it! Idk about that but I do know that the last time we had a guy who could run and pass at a high level he won the Heisman.

Your mention of Baker brings up an important point. Those who think we bought into damaged goods with DJU need to take a look at Baker's overall career here. In 1962, the year he won the Heisman, he threw for 1738 yds on a 55.2 completion percentage with 15 TDs against 5 picks. Both the yardage and completion percentage were excellent in those days. The year before, 1961, Baker threw for 875 yds on a 45.5 completion percentage with 5 TDs against 8 picks. Not especially impressive numbers even for then. What happened? Two things. 1961 was the first year Prothro tried T formation after years of single wing. Oregon State only went 5-5 and it took the team awhile to get comfortable with it, including Baker. Second, Prothro brought in an excellent receiver in 1962, JC transfer Vern Burke. Morale to the story? Some times a change in circumstances can make a big difference. I'm not predicting Heisman for DJU next year but I expect he will be both happier and better performing.

The idea that DJ is some sort of "damaged goods" is just absurd. G Att Cmp Pct Yds YPA TD In Ratng Rush TD
#1 12 279 515 54.2 3615 7.0 29 17 125.1 -152 2 #2 14 229 378 60.6 3022 8.0 18 7 139.7 -11 5 #3 13 229 370 61.9 2521 6.8 22 7 135.0 551 7
You could make a case for ranking these three in any order. #1 rolled up a lot of yards. #2 had the most YPA and got sacked less. #3 is the most accurate and those 551 rushing yards look pretty good.
#1 is DA, #2 is MM (as seniors). IIRC, quarterbacking was considered a particular strength for those OSU teams.
#3 is DJU. I'm fairly confident that quarterbacking will again be considered a particular strength for OSU in 2023.

Now throw in Nolan's 2021 season stats for comparison. Just saying while we all like to put stats out there, they are basically a picture of a specific time frame and it's tough to say how a QB will pan out or how they will adapt to a new or changing system. DJU has the physical tools to make fans and even coaches druel. It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

People have been critical of the 61.9 completion percentage, saying it isn't much different than Gulbranson's. Although it compares well to DA's and MM's it doesn't compare that well to some people in today's game, such as Penix's 66% or Nix's 71%. And Penix threw for 4300 yds and Nix 3300.
DJU had a good year going, would have had better stats, if the wheels had not come completely off in the South Carolina game and he had not gotten benched after two series in the final game. Don't know what happened. Some Clemson people have said he lost confidence. Anyway, like I said earlier, change of scenery, change of circumstances, look forward to better times.

Don't know what happened. Some Clemson people have said he lost confidence. Anyway, like I said earlier, change of scenery, change of circumstances, look forward to better times. I’ve read about the confidence factor a couple of places, and I think about how huge that can be for athletes, especially QBs. To excel, their belief in their ability has to border on cockiness. Most of the really good ones don’t alienate like Ryan Leaf, but a leader who acts “hopeful” rather than self-assured has a hard time getting their teammates to buy in. br]. So many things contribute to having confidence, from personal stuff to injuries to relationships with coaches to a track record of success. DJ didn’t suddenly lose all of that God-given talent that wowed people when he came in for Trevor Lawrence as a true freshman. I am optimistic that the change of scenery, a different system and coach, and back closer to support systems could all contribute to a much more relaxed, but also confident DJ next fall, and we will all be really happy with the results.
