Oregon State’s 2024 recruiting class is “heavy up” with quality arms that include Zach Swanson, Jake McKowen, Zach Edwards, Noah Sorenson and Australian star, Oscar Hyde. A new addition to that group is Dax Whitney from Blackfoot, Idaho. Whitney is the 13th commit in the class.
Dax Whitney is a 6-3, 179 RHP with a high ceiling. His frame projects further growth potential in the range of 6-4 to 6-5 and 190 – 200. He is long and loose with a high ¾ arm slot and a downhill delivery. He throws 4 pitches with heavy reliance on his fastball. The velocity potential punches his ticket to college baseball. Dax has an 88 mph riding fastball with a lot more in the tank. By the time he suits up in Corvallis, he should be consistently in the 90’s.
Pitching for the Blackfoot Broncos, he is averaging 1.64 K/inning with a 2.81:1 K to BB ratio.
In the summer, Dax plays for the Idaho Falls Bandits, a travel team made up from the best preps in southeastern Idaho. His summer tournament experience is impressive and extensive.
Here are his High School numbers: 2021 (Frosh) On a 19-7 team made 8 App. W-L 2-0, 2.85 ERA, 17 1/3 IP, 19K, 11BB, 1 HB, OpBA .185. 2022 (Soph) On a 12-14 team, made 9 App. W-L 4-2, 2.46 ERA, 42 2/3 IP, 79K, 21 BB, 2 HB, OpBA .150. First Team All 4A High Country League selection.
A popular and serious student, Dax carries a 3.72 GPA. He is currently ranked the number 2 prospect in Idaho by both Rawlings-Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report, behind Meridian-Owyhee’s LH slugger, Ryder Cutlip (Gonzaga commit). He also plays shortstop. Dax was recruited by Oregon State, BYU and Washington State.

I just checked out some video, he's got a really deceptive arm action. He's almost directly over the top, so when he works up in the zone, he just kills guys. Looks hittable until it isn't.
