While “they’re” at it; Harrison Blvd. Bridge is becoming obsolete. Widen that sumbitch to THREE LANES. Have TWO turning right lanes (with straight option on south lane) onto 3rd. Pretty soon folks will be backed up to the golf course on a DAILY basis. Everyone can just ride their bikes! Or take the bus! Typical we-want-Corvallis-to-be-like-Europe solution. The number of people in my city who refuse to acknowledge the horseless carriage is here to stay is staggering.

Corvallis people complaining about traffic is cute. You are right, compared to Seattle or Portland, it's not a problem. But since I don't live in Seattle or Portland, I deal with traffic in Corvallis. And compared to Corvallis 15-20 years ago, it's significantly heavier and Corvallis' infrastructure hasn't kept up. You can't add 7-8K students to town, and significant commuting workers from North Albany and South Albany/Lebanon, and not have problems. Highway 34 and Highway 20 are terrifically busy every morning and night, it's not unusual to have to wait 3-4 cycles to get through the lights at 5th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd while trying to get out of town. VBA traffic is often backed up to the railroad tracks at rush hour. The Circle/9th and Circle/bypass intersections are a nightmare almost any time of the day. Kings regularly gets backed up. The road diet on Circle was stupid. And a train running through downtown is a daily problem.

Just way until the Harrison bridge becomes a two-way bridge for two years. Have fun coming to a football game from out of town. But yes, I love old architecture, but that current bridge has no redeeming qualities. 34 to 20 to 26th to Western..Two years to build a relatively small bridge....The Empire State Building was built in 13 months Yes, but good luck with 20,000 people going that same way in and out.

Go thru Albany to Hwy 20 to Circle to Harrison to 35th to Washington Way Or go to fairgrounds on 53rd and take shuttle bus. Lots of ways into and out of Corvallis rather than using Hwy 34. Maybe OSU can resume the game day shuttles from different areas of town where parking is a little easier( free).

Go thru Albany to Hwy 20 to Circle to Harrison to 35th to Washington Way Just took highway 20 to Corvallis from Albany today. Old geezers driving 40 in a 55-zone, with 10 cars backed up behind them. Five miles of construction on what has to be the slowest-moving project in Benton County history, all to add one lane of highway. Highway 20 is a mess on a daily basis. It's 20 times worse on gameday.

You mean Hwy 20 that is posted 45 thru the construction zone, had police presence every day for many months, and today was part of a saturation zone on Hwy 20 & 34?

Yes, highway 20. Which has a 55 MPH speed limit for a good part of it. Where old geezers still drive 40.
The fact that cops were on it today does not change the fact that it's a mess, exacerbated by a never-ending construction project, and especially on gamedays.

Right now you can only drive 55 for 3 - 4 miles from downtown Corvallis to downtown Albany, if that much. There is the mile or so from hp exit to circle. Then 45 from there to garlands. 55 from garlands to the s curve going into North Albany where it drops to 45 the rest of the way.
One reason they are changing the highway is because traffic on 20 was going to fast for Independence hwy and Granger to merge safely. I drive 20 regularly and appreciate the changes they are making and not going with 4 or 5 lanes. One reason is that it gives old geezers a way to get from Albany to Corvallis without getting run over like on 34. And I'm not exactly an old geezer.
So without construction you have 6 miles at 60mph for 6 minutes. If you have to go 40 mph for this same 6 miles it will take you all of 3 minutes longer. With the construction you are only saving 1½ or maybe 2 minutes.
It seems to me that there has been a definite increase in the accidents on 20, hopefully the change will help it or they will end up putting stop lights on it.

It's true that going the posted speed limit, instead of 40, will save you 3-4 minutes.
However, it's the differing speeds that lead to many traffic accidents. The road is posted at 55 because that speed safely and efficiently moves the traffic along. When one drives 40 in a 55, it creates a traffic jam.
I hope the new project helps. But unfortunately, the growing population of north Benton County has put a real strain on Highway 20 and what was once good enough is now outdated.
When I moved here, Highway 34 was one lane in each direction from the interstate to Highway 99E, at least, perhaps even further toward Corvallis. Can you imagine that today?

The stoplight at 34 and 99E on game days - holy sh!t !! Hwy 34 from I-5 to about 1/2 mile west of 99E was improved to two-lanes in each direction in about 1988 (guessing, trying to remember). And on your first point, it's not that speed kills nearly as much as the delta between different vehicles kills. A car traveling down the interstate at 90 mph gets into trouble when another vehicle going 50 changes lanes unexpectantly.
