Final design stage. They have done some preliminary work on some of the approach streets. I've seen surveyors down there off and on. It's going to happen, about 30 years too late.

Have fun coming to a football game from out of town. But yes, I love old architecture, but that current bridge has no redeeming qualities.

Or maybe we can get another Covid year.

I believe plans call for a temporary VBS bridge to be built between the two current bridges during the new construction. Shouldn't be much of a problem. If we can send millions of soldiers and hundreds of millions of tons of tanks, halftracks and other war material across the Rhine on pontoon bridges in 1945 the technology should have advanced enough in 75 years for us to handle bridging the Willamette 75 years later. I think that's how my dad and other members of the fightin' 44th Division of the 7th Army crossed in 1945.

I had not seen the temporary bridge proposal.....I just a saw two-way proposal for Harrison, which would be a nightmare.

But I recall reading about a temporary span. Hopefully IRC!

If you're willing to write a $15 million or so check to make it happen......go for it. If money wasn't an issue, it would be nice to keep it as a pedestrian bridge. And is far as Berg park goes though, it's pretty useless unless you need to visit a homeless camp.

There will be a separate bike/pedestrian bridge connected to the new bridge. So maintaining the current VBSB would be an expensive, unnecessary redundancy. Funny that everyone (me included) calls it the Van Buren Street bridge, when Van Buren is really an avenue, as are all presidential east-west thoroughfares in "old" Corvallis (south of Grant), with the possible exceptions of Pierce and Coolidge. Streets go N-S. Kings Boulevard (20th Street) being the notable exception.

Probably because it goes all the way through without interruption, like Western, Circle and Walnut, also boulevards. Van Buren doesn't.

While “they’re” at it; Harrison Blvd. Bridge is becoming obsolete. Widen that sumbitch to THREE LANES. Have TWO turning right lanes (with straight option on south lane) onto 3rd. Pretty soon folks will be backed up to the golf course on a DAILY basis.
