Great story about Gaylord. He was such a notoriously bad hitter that in 1964 his manager Alvin Dark declared that a man will walk on the moon before Perry hits a home run. On July 20th 1969 a man walked on the moon, that night at candlestick park Gaylord Perry hit a home run.

On July 20th 1969 a man walked on the moon, that night at candlestick park Gaylord Perry hit a home run. Alvin Dark declared at least five years previously, "There'll be a man on the moon before [Perry] hits a home run." The game started at 1:00 p.m. At 1:17, Neil and Buzz landed on the Moon. There was a moment of silence for the astronauts. Approximately 30 minutes later, Perry hit his one and only home run. Neil and Buzz did not actually walk on the Moon until that evening after the game had ended.
