They're shooting the 3 pretty well today, and Martha has played a few minutes (doing very well, it looks like).

Rueck had a lot of positive things to say about Pietsch and that she really raised her game in practice a week and a half ago and showed it on the court today. He also talked about the team's improvement and how he told the players that they have the talent and it's going to come around for them (paraphrasing) and it did against Southern. The dominance the Beavers showed does point to that to an extent. They played like a very good team would play against Southern. I would like to seem them do it against some stronger opponents, but one step at a time, I guess.

Played the aggressor, and made a huge difference across the board. Hopefully a sign that they are figuring out how is do this against much better teams.

89-36 final. Pietsch got a chunk of playing time and did well Really like the way Martha sees the floor from the backcourt to the frontcourt. She knows when to release the ball when the defensive press is on. Was very impressed with the way she ran the point when she was on the floor. My hope is she is running the point for OSU a significant number of minutes going forward. Martha also did a great job defensively, including switching on screens. GO BEAVS!

She has a complete understanding of the point guard role and can execute everything that is required at a pretty good level. Her height might be the only drawback, and it's probably not that big a deal. Yeaney is a better defender, but that's no knock on Pietsch. And I think Pietsch is a bigger offensive threat from the perimeter. Hopefully they can become a good duo at the position.

Led the team in assists (along with Mit) along with scoring double digits and most rebounds of a non-post which is about hustle and quickness. She’s also a good heads-up ball handler. If she can do that agains Pac-12 competition it would help this team so much, especially TvO.

Southern has scheduled quite the gauntlet to start their season. They've already played 3 top 20 teams: 2 from Iowa, 1 from Oregon.
In those three games they were beaten by 53, 24 and 37 points. Beavs equalled the most lopsided of those games (U of Iowa) with their 53 point victory today.
I really noticed Beers side to side foot speed on defense today. Bodes well for PAC-12 play. Nice to see Raegan lead the team in minutes played (29)

Martha Pietsch is a true point guard, one we haven't seen since Destiny, play her.

It would be interesting to see Pietsch, Yeaney, TVO, Aaron and Beers as a regular lineup. Pretty sure Rueck doesn't want to do that, but it would be fun to see how it would work over a long enough period of time to make a judgement. Could also mix in a Beers-Mit frontcourt

A few other thoughts about the game today:
It was good to see the 3-pointers going down. The shots weren't especially different from earlier games against "lesser" opponents when the Beavers shot terribly from the 3. One can once again believe that there are some fine shooters on this team that simply need to build confidence in their games.
Blacklock, while not logging a lot of minutes, had some fine moments. She has a big frame and is constant hustler. And she has a VERY quick release on her shot. She hit two late threes and I thought showed very fine potential to develop into a consistent contributor.
Agreed on all the positive thoughts about Pietsch. She took a big step forward today.
I don't know why so many stay away from this game with the kids. It's great fun with Gill full to the brim. It has become one of my favorite games each year. I wish we could tap in to some of that sound when the Ducks come visiting.
