I noticed that Ty is playing for the TNXL academy in Florida after graduating early from high school. It sounds like he is not going to enroll at Oregon State. The top recruiting classes are creating casualties with more certain to come.

TNXL is a popular baseball academy with some of the top Canadian Juniors. The Ducks have two Canadian pitchers on their roster that attended TNXL. He isn't showing a commitment but I wouldn't worry too much about that. Prep Baseball Report and Perfect Game still show him committed. He may be planning on testing the draft before signing with a college team. He has until August 1, 2023 to sign an LOI with the Beavers.
And there is the possibility he is looking for a large NIL opportunity and is truly, uncommitted.

Their website notes: "At TNXL, 93 graduating players have signed to play college baseball, and eight others were drafted after their senior high school season, for a total of 101 out of 107 high school graduates given the opportunity to play at THE NEXT LEVEL. That’s a 95% success rate!"
Additionally, Doucette has signed for summer 2023 ball with Nanaimo (West Coast League).
Long ways to go until MLB draft day.
Who knows? If he's done with HS, maybe he'll be on the Beaver roster for 2023, ala Luke Heimlich and Talia von Oelhoffen !!

On the Nainamo Night Owl's website it says quote" a monster first baseman/DH in a gap year after graduating from high school early in Okotoks, and now spending a year training with the prestigious TNXL Academy in Florida while he settles on a scholarship. ( He was previously committed to Oregon State University)." It is pretty obvious he is not coming to Oregon State. My best guess is that Spencer Green is also not enrolling. So a 17 person class it is.

That will be a power drain on the '23 class. Trent Caraway and Ty Doucette would have provided the Beavers with a 1-2 power punch in the middle of the order. Couple that with Turley and you had "Yard potential" beyond the norm. Doucette was a a quick left handed bat but may have been limited defensively to a corner or possibly LF. 1B is his primary position and where the projections were locating him.
Of course there is a back story to this development but it has all the appearances of searching for big NIL. The Beavs have a strong relationship with the Okotoks operation - we have signed 5 Okotoks players in the past 4 years with IF Leo Cote in the 2024 class. Okotoks players don't decommit.
Another possible but remote scenario would be the same situation we saw with British Columbia's LHP Dominic Hambey 2 years ago. He had no intention of playing college baseball and signed with the Cubs for a modest bonus.
NIL and the Portal are changing the game. They are here and it is something schools have to navigate. Recently we have lost players over $ and our roster won't be secure with the Portal in play. Facts of life and we have to learn to live with it.

He flipped.
Doucette is now committed to Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knights were 44-17 in 2022, 17-7 in the BIG-10.
30 year veteran Head Coach, Steve Owens. Good program.
Never the less, still a real head scratcher.
Better weather? Closer to Home? Likes the school?
Nah . . . how about NIL?

Best of luck to him. OSU will probably never face him any meaningful game.

He is a big guy and limited to at best 1B. There is no way he plays left field and is best suited for DH. In the press release they said catcher Evan Gustafson can play multiple positions so I's sure he could handle first base if need be. Marnell could also do well over there. With the class sizes they are bringing in I don't think they have the luxury of committing to a one dimensional player anymore. I don't think NIL was a factor I think it was roster redundancy.

Agreed. I like him, but he doesn't have much flexibility. From what I'm hearing, Jacob Krieg is legit and I see him as primarily 1b going forward. But hey, good luck Ty.
