Taylor with another game where he needed to play LESS as he was in single digits for the third straight game Almost double digits in turnovers though, so there’s that. So close to a double-double.

Worst D1 team in the state currently, and it's not close. The good news is that that the other 3 are pretty good programs currently.
I like this PSU team; they play with purpose and a true identity. Gonzaga was able to easily beat them their own game; this OSU is not a team that can do that, and was not able to force their own style on the game in either PSU game.
I don't think this is as bad of a lost as others, but it is clear that this team has a ton of work to do to figure out how to be the aggressors, and how to dictate how the game is going to go in a way that favors them. PSU is a team they should be able to beat, but there's a steep learning curve needing climbed before that's going to happen.
The close Duke was pretty deceiving; that Duke team has a lot of flaws and a lot to figure out as well; the flaws and strengths of OSU currently lined up pretty well; the opposite seemed true vs. PSU and Florida.
I'm still optimistic this team won't be 12th in conference, but a lot of work to do for that not to play out.

Not good. Hard to find positives after that performance. Certainly a new career high in points by Pope is a positive. The rest of the starting lineup did nothing. Freshmen off the bench did some good things. First signs for me that Stevens could be a contributor off the bench, but him playing 27 minutes is not an ingredient for success.
Next up Washington. They’re 5-1, but did lose to California Baptist. Last game they beat St Mary’s in OT. Only played 8 in that game, so depth might be an issue. Also only shooting shade under 34% from 3. Would be nice to get a conference win right out of the gate, but I certainly wouldn’t put money on it.

Akanno going 1-8 from 3 and Taylor dumping off 7 TOs does not a good team make. But I didn't see the game.
Ryuny only played five minutes. Did he get hurt?

From what I remember Akanno had decent looks just wasn't making them. Taylor really seems to be pressing early in the season. Probably feels a little pressure to play up to how he finished last season. Seemed like they were trying some different rotations last night. I think Mariol got the start and I don't remember seeing him again either.

If Portland State can beat us twice shouldn't we go after their coach?

The ID is youth. They're inconsistent. Pope is a good one, I think we can build around guys like him. Bilodeau looks a little raw, but I think he showed some promise this weekend, hitting some outside jumpers and his effort is always there. Like someone else said, we didn't get much from Akanno and Taylor, and we need more consistency from our "veteran" players. Taylor needs to develop his game a little bit, doesn't seem to have a plan b when the defense stops the drive. I noticed him trying to dump the ball off a few times, but his passes weren't crisp and/or guys weren't expecting them. I think you'll see games all year where we hang tough with and/or beat teams we shouldn't, and then lose head scratchers like the PSU game.
Agree 100% that the offense looks stagnant. Pope seems to be one of the only guys capable of creating himself or someone else a good look at the hoop.
I like Rataj and Krass and Stevens as pieces, but they just need more time to develop. Still playing a little bit like they're unsure if they belong at this level.

Still playing a little bit like they're unsure if they belong at this level. No perimeter offense. The Beavers ranked third in the Pac-12 shooting inside the arc (behind Arizona and UCLA) but are dead last in shooting beyond the arc. No outside threat at all. Great at getting to the line and scoring at the line. Perimeter offense is non-existent. Fourth-lowest assist to turnover differential in the Pac-12 also says a lot. Fourth-worst perimeter defense. Fifth-best defense inside the arc. As far as players, Jordan Pope, Rodrigue Andela, Tyler Bilodeau, Michael Rataj, and Dzmitry Ryuny have all played great so far. Taylor has not played well. Akanno has played worse. Akanno needs to become a real offensive threat, or he needs to sit. He misses way too many shots. Krass and Stevens need to improve before they soak up meaningful minutes. You didn't bring him up, but I will Chol Marial is a defensive beast, but he is an even bigger offensive liability. He needs to develop some kind of offensive threat, if Oregon State is going to start winning again.

Agree on the outside shooting. Guys start knocking stuff down, Taylor will find it easier to get to the hoop. Pope and Ryuny are a combined 18-48, everyone else on the team is 17-76. Defensively we're doing a pretty good job all in all, but allowing too many offensive rebounds (over 10 a game) and turning the ball over on the other end, limiting our opportunities for success. Clean those two areas up, and we'll be competitive all year.

Thats my main issue w/ the "3 guys stand around while one guy tries to set a screen" offense. You're basically forcing ISO type ball, where whoever has the ball either has to totally create something on their own or panics and just tries to get rid of the ball. Not conducive for young raw players at all and not ideal for getting very many clean looks from anywhere.

But we kept going back to it for miss after miss after miss. Why aren’t we driving to the basket, drawing fouls and getting the three point the old fashioned way?

Someone figured out that if you shoot 33% on 3’s that’s as good as shooting 50% on 2’s and nobody every looked back.
