Based on a pair of strong 2022 performances, Garrett Forrester and Travis Bazzana potentially represent Oregon State’s best offensive punch for the 2023 season. Analytically they look pretty potent. Take a look at these 5 measurements.
PA:K RATIO Forrester 6.24:1 Bazzana 4.79:1 The ratio relates strike out probability per plate appearance. Forrester is less likely to strike out than Bazzana but both ratios are good.
BB:K RATIO Forrester 1.48:1 Bazzana 0.84:1 The Ratio relates Base on Balls + HBP to Strike Outs. Forrester’s ratio is excellent, Bazzana’s is acceptable.
BB PERCENTAGE Forrester 23.7% Bazzana 17.5% The % on BB + HBP per 100 Plate Appearances. Forrester is skilled at earning a free pass, Bazzana is good and improving with game experience.
PSN (Power-Speed Number) Forrester 9 Bazzana 3 Number formulates weighted value of home runs and stolen bases. Forrester poled 9 Homers, Bazzana 6. Bazzana stole 14 bases. Forrester 1. Not fond of this stat, not a true measurement IMO.
RC (Runs created) Forester .498 Bazzana .489 Formula combines on base factor + advancement factor divided by opportunity factor. Forrester is slightly more likely to create a run / 9 innings than Bazzana. Both numbers are very good.

Thanks for the stats!
Based on what we've seen from these two so far, they will likely be in the conversation for best players in the country at their respective positions.
Bazzana's motor never stops. Dude seems super driven, and the sky is the limit. Will he be an infielder or outfielder?
Forrester might have the best plate discipline we've ever seen at OSU.....that's saying something!

Oregon State's Analytical group (Das Beavers), posted the top 3 wOBA performances during our fall practices. They were;
Ruben Cedillo .630 Travis Bazzana .548 Gavin Turley .534
How did the fall wOBA numbers compare to the full 2022 season wOBA metrics of Garrett Forrester and Travis Bazzana?
Garrett Forrester .423 Travis Bazzana .388
How do those metrics compare with Jacob Melton’s ’22 season total? Melton had a wOBA of .451
*** I used MLB 2019 assigned values for each individual batting event. *** Calculation note - I didn’t have access to the intentional walk totals and was unable to differentiate iBB from BB.

I got to see Turley in Bend, he passes the eyeball test. The ball jumps off his bat, and he has a cannon for an arm
