Just watched it on DVR. Wow….very impressed w the effort. We were forced to move without the ball much more due to their pressure D in the half court set and that made us like better at times. Normally we have 3 guys just standing around in our man to man offense. Besides Duke’s size which was obviously problematic, being in zone and having CM have to be out of position to help other guys, really contributed to the rebounding issues. Getting the Georgia and ASU transfers back healthy will be a nice boost. This is 100% correct. Duke was very skilled at every position. Every team has difficulty blocking out when playing zone, and when we did play man our perimeter guys struggled to keep them out of the lane. The help D was good, but on those rotations we couldn’t always get into position to block out quickly enough. We forced misses, but their bigs were so good. Clark plays even bigger than he is, and I was impressed as hell with Filipowski’s versatility. He does so many things well. I loved the effort. A few times we kind of got caught up in the moment and it overwhelmed us. Rataj airballed a jumper from the short corner, Akanno pulled the string on a free throw that we absolutely needed, and there was a stretch there with about 6 minutes left where Duke was making a run that it seemed nobody (other than Pope) was willing to take a shot. All in all a great game, we looked phenomenal on the defensive end. Hoping we continue to fight like that the rest of the weekend and beyond. Definitely things we can build on from that one

Due is the poster boy for mercenary college basketball. Very few of those guys will be there for more than six months, then they will bring in their next crop. We acquitted ourselves well.

Looks like they gave 22 points to the wrong Oregon team….Ducks fall by 24 to UConn

Regarding attendance: we were dealt a crappy hand by the tournament organizers. In the old days of the Far West Classic, the Beavs and yucks were always evening games on day 1. If they won, which they usually did, they were in the evening for the final two games. Having our first game at 12:30 on Thanksgiving was a) disrespectful of us, and b) stupid for their ticket sales. If we’d played at 7 pm, there would have been a lot more orange in the stands.

Yeah, that was definitely not a way to draw in the locals - the traveling fan bases were going to be there at whatever time.
Hopefully we get a better turnout against Florida tomorrow.

Of course…not surprised after 3 wins season last year. You know, I get it. Yes, last year was an abomination. The year before that we went on a wild ride to the last 8. Last year is last year, unless you are just looking for more reasons to can our coach. I have to say, moral victories are lame and kind of the stuff of losers. But, this team should feel pretty good after this game. Took #8 to the wire. One thing that was missing for sure was our fans. Beaver nation really disappointing today. City of 2 million people, and maybe 50 orange clad fans in the crowd. That's pathetic. You would think we won 3 games in the last decade. I'm not giving myself a pass either. I live in Portland and didn't find a way to get down there. It's too bad, because a strong showing from our fans might have made a difference in this game. Duke got the white glove treatment by refs in the game, and who could blame them. They probably thought they were the home team when they looked around. Also, kind of a glaring weakness at the 4 for this team. Really wish we had Rand flying around out there today crashing the weak side boards. Just couldn't match Duke on the boards without a guy like that on the floor. I don't blame the fans even one small bit for not showing up. It's Thanksgiving, one of the true family holidays. I really don't expect people to leave their family and friends to go watch a basketball game. The pathetic part lies in organizers of college sports making college kids play sports on Thanksgiving (or Christmas or any other holiday). That being said, I really admired the Beavers' performance. The effort was there and they were oh so close to what could have been a huge early-season upset. Loved that the Beavers never looked even slightly intimidated.

Gritty performance that came up short. The overall vibe of this team is refreshing compared to last season. I will be watching.

Duke fans outnumbered OSU fans yesterday 10 to 1. I don't care if it's Christmas Day, that should never happen in Portland, OREGON
Duke had hundreds of fans at the game yesterday, thousands of miles from their home. Thanksgiving didn't seem to be a problem for them. Also, all of this is immaterial to my contention that IF Beaver nation had found a way to show up yesterday it very likely could have made a difference between a win and a loss.
Cry me a river about what keeps us from the games. This team has already shown that their hearts and heads are in the right place. That should be enough to get us fans up off our asses. Fan showing has been weak (understandably) for the first 3 games in Gill also. I just hope we can show more support going forward.
I also need to step up more, and intend to because I like how these guys are playing. Especially after last season! If they keep improving and avoid the injury bug this could turn out to be a fun season. Nobody would have predicted that a couple weeks ago.

You're kidding yourself. And speaking of kidding yourself, this will not be a fun season at all. You don't lose to Portland State twice in the same year, let alone decade.

The point being that it's 1000's of miles from their home court. Who cares how many Duke fans live in or around Portland. Other than the extreme apathy I can't think of a good excuse to be outnumbered significantly by their fans in our own state. Plenty of reasons the fanbase is down, sure. It's still a sobering sight. Nope, not kidding myself bub. Easy to say that now isn't it? When I posted this we had just gone to the wire with Duke, and were 3-2. The 2 games since, and PSU at home, have been very reminiscent of a year ago, and I'm not any more happier about that than the next guy. This team really looked like it was figuring some things out against Duke, and then completely regressed into a mess the next 2 games. This is starting to be all too routine with Tinkle ball. Bout all I got.

Duke fans will pay $$$ to see them around the country (like Cowboy or Laker fans), Beaver (and duck) fans were smart to not pay the $60 per seat for the Phil Knight Ejaculation Fest. Hope ESPN and whomever ran the other side of the "invitational" lost their behind on this sham. Now back to losing to Portland State twice and reading Wayne's excuses for why it happened. It's never about coaching, it's always the players.

Duke is a national program. They have legions of fans everywhere. Even in the NW.
They're like the Cubs, Yankees or Red Sox, who often have more fans at places like Pittsburgh and Miami and Tampa Bay than the home team does. Or like Blue Jays fans in the Canadian NW. Do you think all their fans who go to Mariners games when Toronto plays there drove out from Ontario?

Yah other than the GT reporter SAYING Tinkle took the blame for the losses, all of Tinkle's actual quotes are basically bagging on his players. But he says "we" when referring to them so it's all good. Dude's a 6'10" clown. The coach said Portland State is simply better than his team right now, and he added that meant not just the players but the coaching staff as well. So, the reporter is just putting words in his mouth?

He's deflecting any and all of the blame off himself and onto everyone as a "whole". Why do you old farts love Wayne? Baffling to say the least. "“We’ll answer it. Right now I’ve got a lot going through my head,” Tinkle said in the immediate aftermath. “We’re going to watch film. We’ll get it fixed. I just know that. If we’ve got to play six guys.”" Sounds like the basketball version of David Shaw, just going through the motions in order to collect the check.
