..."Mr. Wright, we're going to hold you out the rest of the season and not waste a year of eligibility"?

..."Mr. Pope, we're going to hold you out the rest of the season and not waste a year of eligibility"? Since he has already played, and thus burned a year of eligibility, that would be a very stupid idea.

We had a discussion about this last year in regards to Taylor Jones.

I thought they could play a few games before they burned their eligibility? We had a discussion about this last year in regards to Taylor Jones. Not in bball. Football get 4 games — or maybe it is 4th game burns it. Can’t quite remember. I think it's technically 30% of the season's games, in the first half of the season, in football. That basically ends up being 3 games and a partial on either a 12 or 13 game schedule so they include the 4th game. Got me wondering on Chance, he played 4 games and a quarter of a fifth, so it shouldn't fall into the 30% category... BUT, he played in 16 of 52 quarters which just might fall into that 30% roundup in quarters... IF the NCAA has ever given a player that kind of exemption before.... I kind of doubt it has ever happened before, but the NCAA hasn't always been even handed on it's rulings. If he had been injured at the end of the USC game he might have qualified to be a 7 year super senior like Jayden Grant was.

Four games in football is the max for a no-waiver redshirt. Sorry, Chance.
In basketball, once you've played, you've used a year. Taylor Jones had an injury, that changes things. Pope doesn't.

I'll go the opposite. We should start Mr. Pope every game this season and let him develop. We'll be better for it next year.

..."Mr. Pope, we're going to hold you out the rest of the season and not waste a year of eligibility"? Even if we could do this, which we can’t, I’m guessing Mr. Pope’s reply would be, “OK, would you point me in the direction of the transfer portal please?”

Crazy speculation….so, nothing Speculation about Pope? What's the scoop? No scoop. The OP was suggesting we sit him out the rest of the year and redshirt him, which would not be allowed anyway.

I actually meant to use the name of the Georgia transfer, Christian Wright.

I actually meant to use the name of the Georgia transfer, Christian Wright. Again, this isn’t the days of Ralph Miller when coaches dictated such things. Depending on when he’s healthy. WT might have a conversation with him, but if Wright doesn’t think his season is lost and gets into playing shape you play him. Otherwise you just risk saving that year of eligibility for some other school when he transfers because you red shirted him when he didn’t want to be.
