Looks like the Beavs have taken 4th place in the Western Regional NCAA Championships! Some incredible performances.

Beavs ranked fifth in the region coming in so the move up one place. Great run for the Beavs. Any day a Beav beats every Duck in race is a great day.

Fourth place automatically qualifies us for nationals, right?

Fourth place automatically qualifies us for nationals, right? Top two from each regional are automatic qualifiers. A subcommittee will select 13 at-large teams to fill out the field. There are 9 regionals in total, so its going to come down to season resume against other 3rd and 4th place finishers.

Here is a quote from the NCAA website:
So, apparently, we're not automatically qualified. Kaylee is in top 4, so she will be able to advance, but I think Grace just missed out (big bummer because she's a tough competitor).
Update: Messi's post has better info!

A quick look at the other CC regional times, although not a perfect comparison, shows some interesting information. Number of runners under 20 minutes by Region ( scroll down to NCAA result links for each region): . Western Region, 33 (3 Beavs included) (19:19, 19:21, 19:25, 19:26... 19:59) . South Region, 11 (19:17, 19:35, 19:35, 19:35, 19:41...) . Mountain Region, 2 (19:47, 19:55) . Southeast Region, 2 (19:49, 19:58) . Great Lake Region, 2 (19:54, 19:57) . Mid-Atlantic Region, 1 (19:58) . Midwest Region, 0 . Northeast Region, 0 . South-Central Region, 0 As most know, different weather, courses, temperatures will affect times. The biggest example is Colorado and Utah in the Mountain Region pretty much cleaned up in the Pac-12 Championships beating all the Western Regional teams handily. They could possibly be selected in the 13 above us. Overall, I'm hopeful of OSU being selected, but we'll have to see if it's like the gymnastics homeristic selection committee.

I looked at the rankings of women prior to the Regionals and there are thirteen teams ahead of OSU in the rankings that did NOT automatically qualify. One of these teams is #14 Ranked California Baptist - who we beat with a tie-breaker today. I like our chances to get in.

The Mountain Region looks very tough. Colorado, the Pac-12 champ, was crushed by four other teams. Gotta say, that region is strong:
