I think we beat 3 wins with this team. What a pleasant surprise.

To answer the question in the thread title, no. Beavers won their first game last year too. Now do I think this team will be better than last year’s? Based on last night’s performance, absolutely. I think the results will be better. How much better remains to be seen. Not gonna go crazy based on one game. And it definitely looks like this will be a much more enjoyable team to watch and root for.

What’s better is it looks like they are coachable this year. Less egos will hopefully lead to better results.

Not saying this is an NCAA team, but these youngsters seems very coachable and don't have their eyes on the NBA or stats sheet. The team plays hard and not caring who gets the hoop...a defensive based team. I truly believe this staff with coach Tinkle does well with a team who isn't expected to do much...and then overachieves.
I ask myself, what do I want in an osu men's basketball team under any coach? I want a team that competes every night...is unselfish..defense based...and has a chance to win every night. If you can do that, that's all I can ask for. The wins will take care of themselves.

You’re too accommodating. It ain’t Beaver basketball until we get a guy on the cover of SI. 😂

Last year was a cr@p show. 8 guys out of 12 with 8 different agenda's.

We've got a long way to go before we can say that this young team is moving forward, i.e., better than last year.
But it certainly helps to have players who want to be part of a team and a true PG, as Pope appears to be. That's a good foundation.

Seems to me I read somewhere that Pope was playing shooting guard and that the point was pretty much a thing in the last year or two. If that's the case, he sure transitioned well. I thought our guard play, both Pope and Akanno was pretty decent for a first game.

I thought our guard play, both Pope and Akanno was pretty decent for a first game. It seemed to me that Akanno was initiating the offense quite a bit — at least in the last half of the second half. Not sure if that was to have a more veteran guard in that role or to give Pope a chance to play off the ball. Whatever the reason, it worked well and having two guys able to take on PG duties will be a plus during the season. And definitely agree the two of them were pretty decent — if not better. Excited to see their growth over the next couple of games as they prepare for better competition down the road.

You hate to have to be rated 12th in the Pac-12 in order to do well I know, I know. We have the whole season still in front of us.

Can it be any worse than last year? They only won three games out of 31. They have already won 2/3 of the amount they won last year. They are only two games into the season. Not going to say they will be world beaters but it can't be worse than the dumpster fire last year. Last year they definitely would have lost to Tulsa. Yes it is better than last year just due to the fact IT ISNT LAST YEAR.
