Good chance Darwin Barney is employed by OSU next August. The NCAA is in sync with the Baseball Coaches Association on paying three Assistant Coaches + 1 (Canham). The NCAA would like to give the individual schools the option of paying all assistant coaches. That is still under discussion in the coaching circles.
This will pass in January and Barney should be on the University payroll in August of 2023.
With a 40 man roster (the Coaches Association choice for roster size), four fully paid coaches and maybe 1 or 2 Graduate Assistants, practices get very productive in terms of individual instruction time and development. That is of benefit of everyone but most importantly to our student-athletes.

Update: NCAA committee is expected to pass the additional assistant coach legislation on Jan. 12th.
All volunteer coaches may be paid if the conference approves, meaning the only limit is what the school determines.
OSU Baseball can now have 4 paid assistant coaches. Dorman, Gipson, Barney and one more if Coach Canham chooses to add another. If OSU can budget for that, I'm sure he will add the 4th Assistant.
Giving Baseball more scholarships (increasing the current number of 11.5) will not be voted upon during this session. The committee wants to see more data on transfer activity and NIL monies being paid. The ABCA has proposed 14 schollies for baseball.

I’m assuming a school would have to add some women’s scholarships as well.

D1 Baseball's Kendall Rogers reported this today:
"The NCAA Division I Council on Wednesday approved a measure to reclassify all volunteer coaches across every sport, including baseball, as full-time assistants, effective July 1, 2023. The approval gives Division I Baseball programs the ability to have three full-time paid assistant coaches and culminates a three-year long fight to turn the volunteer position into a paid position."
OSU paid staff: Canham, Dorman, Gipson, and Barney. Assuming OSU and Barnes have the $$$ to support that number.
* There was no vote on roster limit or number of scholarships by the NCAA Council. Maybe later this spring or summer.
