Only a few days until the real beginning of the season. What are your expectations? I'm curious whether you think this season will be more, or less, successful than last year. Please share your reasoning.

I will preface my remark by stating that it's awfully hard to say without knowing the status of the 3 players who didn't suit up on Sunday. We've been down this road before - player doesn't suit up for the first game, nothing is said about their situation, and 1 game turns into 5 into 14 into the whole season. So who knows?
I think if we see all eleven on the court prior to December, we have a good shot at better than 6th in the conference. If not, a .500 or so finish.

I think it will be more successful than last year because: - Experience under the belts of Jelena, Talia and AJ. I definitely saw improvement in Talia and AJ in that exhibition and was really impressed by the 8 of 8 free-throw shooting of Jelena (no hack-a-Shaq defense on her if that continues!). - Timea and Raegan, though currently without experience at this level, will be more aggressive and athletic than Taylor or Kennedy. - Shallexus and Bendu (barring further impact from injury) will give us added quickness to defend the more athletic players from opposing teams. They need to see a lot of playing time and pick up Scott's system quickly. - The feelings of Scott and the players that they have bonded well and how the return of Eric Ely plays into that. That team chemistry sounds like it will be better than last year. - This prediction is based upon the speculation that Talia or Bendu will be playing point guard most of the time. If we end up with one of the shorter guards getting much time, I don't think we'll see more success than last year.

At the 5 - Mit and Beers over Brown and Mit. Brown didn't want to be the post, did nothing to prepare for it, and was a fish out of water for most of the season.
4- Timea and Taya is a wash. There is no way Timea will be better than Taya defensively, but Taya was never comfortable about scoring and I don't think Timea will have that problem. Based on absolutely no real knowledge.
3- AJ over Greta if AJ keeps shooting the mid range shot like she did in exhibition game. Although her 3 point shooting still isn't hitting....and she had a hot first couple of games last year also and then flat lined. Ok, so no clue.
2- Talia over Talia easily. Just hoping for the Soph. bump. No other reason.
1- Bendu over last years PG by committee. If Bendu can shoot better this year they have some real possibilities.
The one thing that last years team had over this years team was Mack. Every once in a while she could come in and will the team to victory. I don't see anyone able to do that this year.

I think we can all say this is a rebuilding year, but there is very good potential with the group we have. Last year had a strange sadness about it that cloaked the very ones that should have been the leaders (there, I said it, but it's my opinion). Even though I think we might do better this year, there could be some initial growing pains.

Not a rebuilding year imo. I will take talent over experience any day of the week. If mostly healthy, this team should make the tournament and be a tough out. Some complain about all the 4 and 5 star talent we lost to the portal the last two years. Most of those ladies were from far away during a covid time in this country. This roster is more West coast based.
What was the final 4 team composed of? Mostly 3 and 4 star players who were developed. Weisner 4 star ...Weise 4 star...Hunter 3 star...Hanson 3 star...Guliich international ...Ruth international...Siegner 3 star...etc. Having 4 and 5 star recruits adds a new level of problems in some cases in addition to how easy the portal is to enter. My point is,this roster is comprised of 3 and 4 star talent. It's not as talented as the final 4 team of course, but I think the chemistry will be good and get back to what osu was good at...rebounding,defense,field goal % defense, etc. JMO
In Scott Rueck I trust. He hasn't forgotten how to coach. With Bendu and Aaron, the perimeter defense has a chance to be very good. Offense and defense starts on the perimeter. This team will get better and better as the year progresses.

Addressing your #3, I remember when Ralph Miller said he bet on the wrong horses. Looking back at last season, SR bet on the wrong horse when going with Greta over AJ. I think we all know why. Greta was higher ranked, had better overall skills, could do a bit of everything, etc. but it seemed early on to me that she wasn't quite ready for Pac12 play, and wasn't totally in love with Oregon State basketball. AJ had the physical talents, but not the basketball skills of Greta, but voices an opinion that she absolutely loves Oregon State. Knowing what we know now, regarding your #3 comment, I definitely think AJ this year, will be better than Great last season.

Greta would get into that hang-dog mode when things were going a little sideways. A.J., on the other hand, keeps her head up, keeps playing without the distraction of personal turmoil - and generally shows that she loves the game, and her team, regardless of the situation. That difference translates to leadership vs. (something less than that).

Scott was just on the football pregame show with Ron Callan. He talked about Martha, Noelle, Talia and Bendu when the discussion was about the PG position. We'll see how much time Bendu gets there, but it's good to know it is part of his plan. Let's just hope she gets back on the court soon and can continue learning the offense.
