Anyone attend? I was there for game one.
Notes * Cedillo...3-4 missing the cycle by a homer * Trosky...2 base hits *Talt... caught today...has great wheels and a solid arm. If he can put the ball in play,he can really help osu with his speed *Kmatz...looked solid for the few innings he had. Not huge velocity, but effective. Thorenstein(sp) relieved him. One of the few lefties on the roster. Pitched in and out of trouble. * A rhp side armed pitcher came in and looked solid. Kid was a newcomer from Elk Grove Cal. * Forrester's younger brother played 2b...smaller than his older brother but a very solid defender. Faster than Garrett.
if I remember more,I will post below. Beavs won 5-0 or so. Wasn't paying attention to the scoreboard much. Asked one of the Okotoks kids who they play on this fall trip(from Canada) ...Utah,Gonzaga,osu,uo,LBCC,Mt.Hood cc,Salt lake cc,and others. Some of the teams they played were double headers. Bazzana,Dernette,Forrester,Turley,Smith,Guerra, didn't play in game one. I left after game one,but game two was scheduled at 6pm.

Yep! Exhibition games in the fall are for evaluation purposes. For the most part, our coaches aren't evaluating returning players. They are eye=balling and assessing the newcomers (and there are a few, 24 if my count is correct). The staff is faced with making some painful cuts and they want to get it right. The games are great for fans because they can get acquainted with the Freshmen and transfers.
Okotoks and the Beavers have a strong connection. I think Peterson and Graham coached there and Mascarenas, Melton, Foster, Valero-Sanchez, McDowell, Case, Stuhr and Freshman RH Connor Pote have all played there on the WCL Collegiate Team or one of the age-group teams from the baseball academy. I'm sure I missed a few as well.

Thanks for the report. Aiden Jimenez is that Elk Grove righty, I think he looks pretty decent on tape.

Gavin Logan was there...
Hearing good things about Reeder and Krieg too...
The 3b I believe for the opponent is a beaver recruit. Lefty hitter who didn't look overpowered by Kmatz.

Q for Cake.
Was the RHP from Elk Grove Aiden Jiminez or A.J. Hutcheson ?
Both throw from a 3/4 slot with Hutcheson a low ¾ arm (sidearm) and both have heaters that sink dramatically. Both are accomplished infielders as well.
I believe Jiminez has already pitched. I don't think Hutcheson has, that's why I'm asking.
This was a recruiting post on May 13th. . Elk Grove is home to a lot of baseball knowledge - smart coaches and experienced guys around that program, like Papa Madrigal. They know that induced vertical break is the toughest pitch in baseball to hit. I think they teach their kids that idea.
Aiden Jiminez is coming to OSU with a modest FB in the 88-91 range but what he also brings is a filthy sinker that is a ground ball and DP machine. Hutcheson also appears to throw an 85 -86 mph sinker from a low arm slot similar to Gonzaga's side-winder Klempner.
I suspect they throw the "splitter", a split-finger fastball (for the old-timers, a fork ball) with the flat position of the wrist at release that drives the pitch down and running arm side.
Cake is correct - Coach Dorman is unlikely to recruit an 85-86 mph fastball, but an 85 mph running sinker that drops off the table, might have his interest.
And of course, he is a very good infielder/ hitter which would make this pitching conversation moot.

Gavin Logan was there... Hearing good things about Reeder and Krieg too... The 3b I believe for the opponent is a beaver recruit. Lefty hitter who didn't look overpowered by Kmatz. Saw Logan with Boyd, and Hjerpe. They are having a baseball alum thing this weekend. The standout guys to me were Cedillo, Trosky, and Talt. Talt really stood out to me as a plus athlete. Really fast. Good behind the plate. Doesn't get cheated at the plate. Krieg is HUGE!! Dude looks like 28 year old big league first baseman. Quinn had people getting the radar guns out. I heard he hit 95. Macias looks like a baller. Pretty fast, and aggressive on the basepaths. Overall, the athleticism on this team is off the charts. The 3/4 guy was Hutcheson. He was effective. Kinda like having one of those guys on staff to throw off hitters.

A few more random thoughts..
The second game I didn't sit still much. My 10 y.o. son was getting antsy, so we chased foul balls, and played catch just outside Goss. What I did see was our hitters struggling against the Okotoks pitching mostly. A lot of pop outs and poorly struck balls. I believe Guerra had a nice solid single after he pulled a lazer line drive foul. Dernedde hit a triple, and was stranded.
Grewe started and was solid. Pretty good movement on his FB. Quinn overpowered the okotoks with his gas. When we left Brown came in and was looking to equal Quinn's gas....we only watched one hitter against Brown.
Not sure the Okotoks are a good gauge for our pitching, as I think they are a bit overmatched at the plate, but yea our staff showed well last night.
Bazanna didn't play.
Big country was the warm up catcher between innings. Lil country got the wheels in that family. Big country got the luxurious hair
