In his OSU Fall Report, Kendell Rogers from D1 Baseball.com mentioned an infielder named Mikey Kane I haven't seen that name before so I assume he was a late pickup that went unannounced. What do we know about him? Mikey Kane is an excellent athlete and a good baseball player - a nice insurance addition to the roster. He's 6-3 and 200 with shiney tools - 6.49 speed in the 60 and 105 mph exit velo. An honor roll student with a 3.8 GPA and a high character individual - Can play in the infield or outfield, a good fit for the Beavers.
Kane was a 3 year varsity starter and two-time All Mission League and All CIF performer for the Golden Knights of St. Francis High School (enrollment of 820) in LaCanada, CA. St. Francis competes in the Mission League against soCal baseball powers, L.A. - Loyola (David Case), Harvard-Westlake, Encino-Crespi, Mission Hills-Bishop Alemany, and South Hills-Chaminade. Kane is also a three year starter in football.
Kane was recruited by southern California schools in high school (UC-Riverside, CS-Fullerton, USC and New Mexico State). He played the 2021-'22 season at College of the Canyons C.C. in Santa Clarita, CA. for 20 year Head Coach Chris Cota. The COC Cougars finished 22-22 in 2022, 12-9 in conference. Kane was named to the First Team All Far West Conference team for 2022. He received his AA degree in June.
Kane committed to USC in 2021 but USC made a coaching change this summer and he changed his commitment.
Baseball Census says he is the best JuCo outfielder in the state of California. He is the son of Mike Kane, a legendary running back at Cal State Northridge. His numbers look fairly good.
