If you're going to match lefty-lefty, he should have used Boyd instead of Ray, who absolutely sucked the last part of the season. I think that homer landed in Amarillo.
Opponents had a .146 average off Sewald. Should have stuck with him, matchups and analytics be damned.

He gave up a HBP and an intentional walk after the plunked batter moved over to second on a flyball to left. Castillo then gave up a three-run shot to center. That was one of Boyd's two appearances on one day's rest. Stupid to pitch Ray, when Boyd was ready to go. |

Someone tweeted that it was appropriate that the Mariners brought king Felix to throw out the first pitch then didn’t score a run for him. Ouch

If not, I guess I root for the Padres? Dunno. Go Guardians! Hell YES root for the friars. I watched their first MLB game at San Diego Stadium in ‘69! A win against the Astros. Probably twenty thousand in attendance. I was a kid in heaven! Just turned 11. It was a big deal to get a major league club. Now, that’s ALL they’ve got left. They really do have a good club. |
