#6 Rays (Rasmussen) @ #3 Guardians (Kwan)
Rasmussen picked up the playoff-clinching win on Friday and has not pitched since. Shane McClanahan is penciled in to start game one, and Tyler Glasnow is penciled in to start game two. If one of those two can't throw a couple of innings, Rasmussen may come in. If not, Rasmussen will be the game three starter or first man out of the bullpen. Rasmussen has the most rest of any of the top four starters.
#5 Mariners (Boyd) @ #4 Blue Jays
I have not heard an announcement, but it is possible that Boyd will not be on the Wildcard roster, because teams can only carry 26 players into the Wildcard round. We'll see.
The Rays-Guardians winner plays the Yankees in the ALDS. The Mariners play the Astros in the ALDS, if they get by the Blue Jays.
In the NL, Stefen Romero was on the Dodgers' roster for a couple of days in June. I do not think that any other Beaver was on the roster of any other NL playoff team. The Dodgers get the Padres-Mets winner in the NLDS.

Oregon's Garrett Cleavinger ('15) pitched the eighth. Rasmussen did not throw. Kwan hit his only ball out of the infield off of Cleavinger to center. Kwan finished 0/4, three ground balls to go with his flyout to center off of Cleavinger. It is interesting to note that Cleavinger's last year at Oregon was '15 and Kwan's first year at Oregon State was '16. 2-1 Guardians. Game two tomorrow. The series winner travels to the Bronx for the ALDS, which starts on Tuesday. There was some chatter that Boyd would be left off of the Mariners' roster, because the Blue Jays are so righthand heavy. But Boyd made the cut and is on the roster. He is the lone lefty in the bullpen. The only other lefty pitcher on the Wildcard roster is Robbie Ray, who is expected to start game two. Alek Manoah (West Virginia '19) gave up four runs on four hits in 5.2 innings. It is 4-0 Mariners in the sixth. The Mariners-Blue Jays winner heads to Houston for the start of the ALDS on Tuesday. In the NL, the Phillies beat the Cardinals 6-3 in the early game, the series winner travels to Chavez Ravine for the start of the NLDS on Tuesday.

Mariners need to win tomorrow or Sunday to punch a ticket to Houston. That Blue Jay roster is crazy. They only had one lefty hitting against two righty pitchers and that's the left fielder, Raimel Tapia. Do we see Boyd throw to anyone but Tapia tomorrow or Sunday? Mariners win their first postseason game in more than half of my lifetime. Party like it's October 20, 2001! (Not that things were all that great then.............) I also just saw some highlights from that Phillies-Cardinals game. St. Louis took a 2-0 lead into the top of the ninth. Philadelphia only had four base runners in the first eight innings, and the Cardinals were undefeated, 93-0, with 2+ run lead in the ninth. But the Cardinals tried to stretch their reliever into the ninth. After a strikeout, the next seven Phillies reached: 1B, BB, BB, RBI HBP, 2 RBI 1B (the second baseman was in double play depth and the ball snuck under his glove to his left on a dive), RBI FC (the first baseman threw home to try and get the lead runner), and RBI 1B (the hitter beat the shift and beat the Cardinals' platinum glove third baseman). The next hitter hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2. The St. Louis got a single and a two-out walk and single to make it 6-3, but the final hitter, the tying run, struck out to end the game. Great game...........unless you are a Cardinal fan. The Phillies become the first team to score their first six runs in the ninth in postseason history and win their first postseason game since October 4, 2011. (Stutes was on that team. He pitched in relief in the game one win and then did not pitch again. That was Stutes' last healthy year, injuries wrecking his final two years.)

Guardians advance with a walkoff homer in the 15th. 1-0 final score. Kwan was 0 for a lot today in the pitcher’s duel. Only four Guardians got hits. Kwan was not one of them. Kwan walked in the sixth and was stranded at second on the Rays' near-miraculous escape from the bases-loaded, no out jam that inning. Rasmussen came on in the eighth. He induced Kwan to line out to first to end the eighth and got the first two in the ninth before Cleavinger came on. The Guardians are heading to the Bronx. The Mariners beat the Blue Jays to finish off the sweep. Boyd didn't pitch, so I guess that he will be well-rested heading to Houston. Adam Frazier picked up the game-winning hit in the ninth. An interesting fact is that is the same Adam Frazier, who led off for Mississippi State in the 2013 College World Series. Frazier started off the two-out rally in the final Oregon State game against Mississippi State with Hunter Renfroe hitting the three-run shot to put the Bulldogs ahead for good.
